CHAPTER 23
The train rattled and shook its way down the Arun Valley, Arundel castle looming to the right, and I started looking for the Hawker Hunter jet fighter still on its plinth at what had been Ford airfield. It was almost a milk train, stopping at nearly every station on the line, passing three castles, two cathedrals and any number of harbours.

“I had a talk with her yesterday morning. She actually opened up to me and I felt you needed to know about it.” Shelly came out and handed a can of soda to her. Persephone opened it up and took a quick sip. “She's had so much fun the past few days, she's dreading having to be Troy for Christmas.”

“Maggie? Could I offer a suggestion?” Persephone asked as she leaned back in the couch.

I’m standing waiting at the front door and I can’t help it I’m nervously leaning back and forth from foot to foot and trying not to be nervous, try to do something with my arms which for some reason seem to be in my way until I end up sort of crossing then and kind of hugging myself. The door opens and I’m looking at this stunningly beautiful blonde.

My life was destroyed when my husband died. Since then, I’ve been just moving through the days with little purpose. Then my juvenile delinquent nephew was dumped on my doorstep. And we began to move into new lives, together.

"Word, man!"Alex answered. "Just too bad we were not invited. But I think we've given the event a little touch of Sigma Sigma Alpha I'd say! And we're up for more!"

"Yeah!" his friends loudly bawled out their agreement. They didn't even care that it was raining a bit. The alcohol in their blood kept them warm.

Christmas day arrived and of course Santa had visited during the night, It`s been a couple of years since we had a proper Christmas in a real house with all the trimmings. Of course Amanda wanted to go to church so we all went, Amanda, Mary and ten of us guys turned a lot of heads as we entered the church.The service wasn`t a long one but with this preacher they never were, he always got his message across with as few words as possible.

“Good. I don't think anyone else is awake yet.”

“But Rachel, it's not even seven.” Brooke groaned. “The only lucky one here is Casey. She doesn't get to hear the kid.”
