I lay there looking at the clock. 5:30 AM. Pretty late to get to bed. I decided to try to doze for a while. Sleep was just carrying me off to the den of Morpheus when the house phone, not my cell rang.

“Charlotte, I know it’s been a long night, but you need to come down here.” Corporal Johnson said. I couldn’t get angry at her, she would never call me at home, when I was off, unless it was like Armageddon. “OK, see you in 20.”

Carlus scratched his head for a moment, then said, “I get it. You’re the only girl, and you want a friend. But you know -- in spite of how she looks and acts -- she isn’t real. She looks like a person, but she’s not a person.”

That half a dozen of the Asylum escapees were here with the Vanquishiri Bahitians did not bode well. Mortar Mage tried to put names to their faces, but only the big man Bloodthorn, the woman with the vulture wings Carrion, and the other woman Needlepoint, came to mind. He had to assume the other three were just as bad, not just for where they had been locked up.

Due to me taking the wrong subway train and then stopping off for something to eat, I arrived home much later than I’d anticipated. As I suspected, there was a Black Ford Sedan that screamed to the world ‘Feds Inside’ parked just up the street. I sighed and instead of going into my home, I went to the car and knocked on the window.

After some hesitation, the window was wound down. It was the same agent that had followed me into the Lingerie Store. His partner was gripping the steering wheel tightly.

“Hello Again!”

He didn’t reply.
