Just another drabble of a verse.

Chapter 3

I woke up on a bed, naked with no sheet covering me and what I saw sent me into an immediate deep depression. I wouldn't say my body looked particularly feminine. I didn't have any breasts to block my view which I had been told previously but was still a nagging concern. I didn't see any exaggerated curves and all my excess fat was gone, which was good, but it gave me a clear view of my privates.

I paced back and forth, surveying the remaining members and pledges. This time we were in the meeting room, a podium up front, wooden folding chair spread uniformly across the rest of the floor. We hadn’t been using this space enough, but we had to look formal enough when our GAT representative walked through the door.

The process of going to an interview for a new job is stressful at the best of times but when… when you are doing it for the first time and as a total and absolute fraud is really daunting.

When I saw all the others waiting to be interviewed for the job I almost turned tail and ran for the hills. They were all wearing business suits. All of the three other women in the room were perfectly made up and … well, nigh on perfect. Their flawless complexions could have from a fashion magazine such as Vogue. The six men were all identikit clones in suits with hair just the right length, all freshly shaven and nothing out of place that would really distinguish them from the person sitting right next to them. Even their ties were almost the same shade of non-committal blue. Ugh!

Tis true that leaning is never cheap. You always pay for it in money, time or pain and oft all three.

Mick woke up in early dawn from his spot under the wagon. It was a relief not to have had to sleep in chains and shackles, and finding himself a spot under the wagon meant that the morning dew had not soaked him. But another seven men had the same idea, and there was a snoring mass of bodies that he had to crawl over before hurrying off to the latrines.

Jenny hesitated before saying, “For the first time, I actually think I might be able to do this, Mum. Go to college as a girl I mean.”

Kepler sat on the wagon, while his eight guards patrolled the train. There were four other wagons as well, containing food for the train, and other trade goods. The most valuable goods were the human sort, he thought to himself. Sarn was apparently short of slaves and the auction he hoped to reach on time should result in a good profit.
