As she got close, she saw Larissa, Carly and Mikki heading in from the opposite direction.

Plagued by many unanswered questions Mercy seeks sanctuary in the local park.
There she hopes to find time to think and figure things out, but of course, everything goes awry again.

CHAPTER 62
We did let things lie for a little while, as there was another event looming: a wedding. Candice had made the usual and expected noises about Hen Night Armageddon, with flights and matching T-shirts, and I simply told her to get stuffed. We were already down for a long-haul flight for the wedding, and I really didn’t fancy wasting any more time or money in airports. There was also the matter of the fresh meat, for while I didn’t want to leave them out of the team-building exercise (debauch) they were still ‘stranger’ enough for a holiday together to feel uncomfortable.

My head was bowed against the chilly wind as I made my way down the busy sidewalk. Above me, buildings loomed like giant grey dominoes, their blank windows reflecting the gloomy winter sky. I maneuvered through the crowd surging alongside me. It was four o’clock on a Friday, and everyone was eager to make it back home and slough off their coats, hats, gloves and scarves. I, however, was not headed home. My destination lay a little further ahead, on the corner of the block. I approached with haste, drawing my scarf more tightly around my face as tiny flecks of snow began to fall.

Chapter One – Wish I Was Wren

Four young navy recruits are left to guard HMS Chelmsford over the holiday stand-down overseen by four bullies who think it might be fun to make the young sailors dress up as Wrens.

CHAPTER 61
We had opted for the breakfast, which was decent enough as it went, and with it being midweek the place was almost empty as we ate. Jon was very quiet.

“You OK, mate?”

He chewed a mouthful of toast as he considered his reply.

“Di?”

“Yeah?”

“He bloody terrified me”

Filas knew that kind of apparel. Rifle festival. An old German habit, where many people met to have a bunch of drinks, and few people shot at a wooden bird, and the one person who shot down the last part was crowned king. That is, he got to wear a fine uniform for several other festivals of that kind in the same year, and got to pick a woman by his side as his queen. Sounds weird, and it was, but the main purpose of it all was just getting drunk anyway.

"Hey," Monique whispered as she poked her head around Ellie's bedroom door. "Me and Kace are here, we was wondering, you know, how you were feeling today?"

"I'm fine," Ellie mumbled into her pillow, not even opening her eyes to look at her friend.

"Okay," Monique replied, nodding her head as she realised that her presence in the room was not welcome. "We- we'll be outside if you, you know, wanna get up..." The dark-skinned girl sighed as she led Kacey back into the flat's living room, where Janet waited with a look of anticipation on her face.
