This is for Jill and the story she wrote about a soccer player who went on to become the best football kicker.
Brandon Aubrey, who went to school at Notre Dame, didn’t initially play football at all. He was a soccer standout for the Fighting Irish before trying his hand at the pro level with Toronto FC. He also played for Bethlehem Steel FC of the United Soccer League. So far he has made fifteen out of fifteen attempts at filed goals.

Apparently this is not unusual.
A cousin of mine spent a year in the US and became a very successful high school (gridiron) football kicker.
In his native country he was a good football player. Football as in where you use only your foot to propel the round ball.
In the 60s
I seem to remember a college kicker back in the 60s who was a soccer player. His approach to the ball was at an angle so he could use the side of his foot to kick. He was very accurate and was able to put quite loft to the ball for distance.

All Placekickers...
...that I'm aware of now are "soccer-style" kickers, advancing toward the ball on a kickoff at a diagonal rather than straight-on. And some of them do come directly from school soccer teams, even at the major college level.
