Amazon has closed my account. It started when Amazon started draining my eCash card with "fees". Then they transfered two of my gift cards (they were supposed to credit my eCash account instead) to my wife's separate account and I ended up buying my own Christmas present this year. The fees do not show up as charges, just money tranfers. I protested through Customer Service, was informed that the "problem" would be fixed, and that I would be compensated for the losses. None of that happened. In May, I tried to close the account. Five times since May. Each time, Amazon has cancelled the closed (until now) due to the fact that Kindle Publishing had issued a permant red listing of my name, saying that I would "never be allowed to submit or publish anything through Amazon again." Today, they cancelled my account. Goodreads also "cancelled" me. I now have no books listed with Goodreads, purchased or or the one published under my name and sold through Barnes & Noble Nook Books. No books that I've purchased or read now have any notes or highlights listed anymore.
I cannot close my account with them either, unless I first login at Amazon.
So....I can no longer buy any of the books you folks sell on Amazon, the only place you can purchase Kindle ebooks. I'll miss reading your stuff.
Sorry way to end things, no more new books to read.

ps, the only good thing that hasn't happened (yet) is that Amazon has not erased the 278 ebooks I have purchased from them since 2010.
I can still read them on my old Kindle. I'm currently rereading all the Ell Donsaii books by Tanya Allan (I have ALL of her books on my Kindle, along with all of Daring Diane's books, and others from Big Closet authors).

If I want to reregister my Kindle, I have to reapply to open an account with Amazon.
All the ebooks I purchased are now gone.
It now looks like I will not be able to keep enjoying all 278 of the ebooks I have purchased from Amazon since I started buying them from the corporation sixteen years ago. Which is very sad and will probably now leave huge hole in my life to sit alongside the hole left by the death of my beloved wife, Donna. Who I loved for over fifty-five years.

Makes me happy to be slightly paranoid
I have never let me be too dependent on any one company/organisation.
Of course that means I have way too many physical books but at least they can't be cancelled.
Stopped using Amazon about two years ago (and only using marketplace for some time before that),
Losing ebooks
Amazon keeps changing policies regarding their Kindle app where now you have to get it from the Microsoft App store to better track you by.
I have stopped buying Kindle books consequently so, sorry authors.
The good news is that due to the last go round of preventing people from de-drming their books I downloaded all of the books.
Those books would reside in the My Kindle folder on Windows in one's Document folder.
I have an offline Windows 10 machine that is backed up to an external hard drive so I just copied that folder to my current Windows 11 machine and I am able to read them.
One of the things I preemptively done on my Kindle app to prevent it from phoning home is to deliberately break the networking options under 'tools' in the Kindle app.
Most of what I've purchased to date can still be read consequently.
The last alternative to jailbreak ones' Kindle library is to use a screenshotting tool and screenshot all of your books on Windows.
Slow, sure, but at least now Amazon can't just rip you off.
all of my
complete books are available through Lulu.com if that's any help, in both digital and dead tree versions.

Good on you.
Wish we could say reaped Hemp instead of dead tree but that's another matter.
This is why I wish Morpheus and others.
Would STOP relying on Amazon's publishing arm! As of a month or two ago they won't even let you download Kindle books to your PC through your Kindle or Amazon.
So more and more trying to live in the Cloud so they can steal it from you and charge you again.
