Okay. This is going to sound like a stupid question.

Are there any side effects from taking testosterone blockers? Besides the obvious!

I mean like when you see a commercial on television for some medication, they list the most common serious side effects. That's what I'm after.

Spironolactone:
If any of the following side effects occur while taking spironolactone, check with your doctor immediately:
Incidence not known

Abdominal or stomach cramping, burning, or tenderness
bleeding gums
bloody or black, tarry stools
bloody urine
breast pain
chest pain
chills
clay-colored stools
clear or bloody discharge from the nipple
cloudy urine
coma
confusion
constipation
convulsions
cough or hoarseness
dark urine
decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability
diarrhea
difficulty with swallowing
dimpling of the breast skin
dizziness
drowsiness
fast or irregular heartbeat
fever with or without chills
general feeling of tiredness or weakness
headache
heartburn
hives, itching, or skin rash
increased thirst
indigestion
inverted nipple
loss of appetite
lower back or side pain
lump in the breast or under the arm
muscle pain or cramps
muscle spasms or twitching

troubled breathing
unpleasant breath odor
unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
unusual bleeding or bruising
unusual tiredness or weakness
vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

yellow eyes or skin

If any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking spironolactone, get emergency help immediately:
Symptoms of overdose

Irregular heartbeat
nervousness
numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
reddened skin
weakness or heaviness of the legs

Some spironolactone side effects may not need any medical attention. As your body gets used to the medicine these side effects may disappear. Your health care professional may be able to help you prevent or reduce these side effects, but do check with them if any of the following side effects continue, or if you are concerned about them:

I had a 'mini stroke' (transient ischemic attack) less than three weeks after starting spironolactone. I was already on HRT. So there's that, too.

Check with your doctor before you take any.
But yes do some research before hand.

You can look at FDA or at drugs.com

and do not use without some one who know how to use those medicine.

The Ultimate Testosterone Blocker

I took Spiro (It's a popular blood pressure medication) for a few months. It seemed really clear to me that if I wanted rid of testosterone, I should simply be castrated, and that is what I planned to do. I found a Urologist that would sort of do it under the table for $1000 and that is what I had done. At first I was going to have him leave some glass balls behind, but the family threw me out before the op, so there did not seem to be any point.

There are estimated to be at least 60,000 non-transgender males in America who've been castrated to slow down the advance of testicular cancer and prostate cancer.

I assume that you are headed off down the Yellow Brick Road of T'ism. I took oral estrogen for a few years, until I had a kidney infection and the Doc put me on Vivelle.dot patches at a greatly reduced dosage. That is when the skin softening and breast development started for sure.

It seems that when you take Estrodial, your kidneys remove most of it. So, on patches, it goes right through your skin and right into the blood stream, so a very small dosage is extremely effective.

all medications taken orally for an extended length of time can have a negative impact on your liver, so if on a long term medication you need to have your liver function tested regularly. That means cholesterol levels.

other conditions can also cause problems. My own COPD means I need to monitor my potassium intake, since elevated potassium levels trigger an exasperation of my COPD. Being on spironolactone means my body retains more potassium, a side effect of spironolactone.

Taking any medication without involving a doctor is generally not a great idea because of interactions with your overall health.

I can't take spiro. I have been put on it a couple times during transition, but after a couple days, I either end up absorbing it and having trouble standing up, or if it is especially minty, end up vomiting it up instead.

I think universal side effects include increased migraine risk, increased osteroporosis risk unless balanced with other sex hormones, etc.
