It's been years since I read it, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't finished at the time. So I'm not positive my details are correct,

Characters are late teen or college age, and the story revolves around an e-sports online game where teams take on each other head-to-head, remotely, (Something like soccer or capture-the-flag; the teams are actively facing off against each other, as opposed to a quest/best-a-boss setup.)

Our male protagonist has been recruited by a team's captain to play for an otherwise all-female team. (Not a cheat, I'm pretty sure there are mixed teams competing as well as single-sex ones.) I think the captain is aware (or becomes aware) that he's not a girl -- and the other team members aren't; most or all the background game interplay is by text and none of it allows for camera views. (Not sure about voice.)

Eventually they win enough games to get entered in a live playoff tournament in a city where at least some team members including our guy don't live. It's decided that he'll dress as a girl, and the captain gets him his own hotel room, since he'll need privacy to change clothes.

The team has never played under conditions where they can all see each other, and in one day's online practice games against lesser teams that are playing remotely, they're totally out of sync and lose every game. That's the last I remember.

Does anyone recognize it, and know whether it was completed?
