So… I just filed the copyright for Fractured Rune: The Aeldstorm Saga, Book One.
That’s right. I officially handed my baby over to the U.S. government and said, “Here, please acknowledge my brainchild so no one else can legally steal it.” And the Copyright Office website said, “Cool, even though the government is shut down, give us sixty-five bucks and a PDF or else.”
I uploaded the full book, art and all. The maps, the glossary, the weird rune things I designed, the parts where I cried editing at three in the morning, it’s all in there. Somewhere in a government database, an overworked clerk will soon know the Bograz exists, which honestly feels like a public safety hazard.
Now I just wait for the certificate. It could take a few months, which is fine, because waiting is my superpower. Totally fine. I’m calm. Completely normal about it.
Anyway, Fractured Rune is now officially, legally, cosmically real (or soon will be).
If you listen closely, you can hear me cackling somewhere in the distance.

Doesn't Protect You
It does give you the right to protect yourself and your stories and go after those who have copied your material. It also adds weight behind your claims of what is yours. From personal experience it's almost impossible to sue for recovery of monetary loss, and it is costly. Instead go to the internet server hosting the thief if you happen to run into this problem. Most will shut down the domain dealing in stolen property.

Oh I've had to file copyright claims on youtube twice before. Someone put up one of my stories on youtube with a crap ai voice and tried to claim it as my own.
These books have only been shown to a handful of people and won't ever be available for free which will make it easier to fight if someone tries to steal them. Filing copyright just makes it easier to prove you wrote it. I doubt I'll ever be suing anyone over it.
