Funds Needed - end-month bills

Ad revenue down, expenses up. We need more revenue. We're stepping up book production, which will help, and thanks to everyone buying our books!

But we depend a great deal on contributions from our community to meet the expenses of the site and phone and internet access for each of us.

If you can help, please do. It's greatly appreciated.

Hugs,
Erin

I debated posting this (because minor spoilers for GEM)

Pretentious "I'm a writer!" blog post. Sorry, not sorry ;)

So, "As a writer" (See, I told you! lol) I draw inspiration from everywhere, my own experiences, others' experiences, other works of fiction and non fiction, and sometimes - okay, a lot of the time - I'm just making it up as I go along just like the rest of us. But I have never experienced this before, where something I wrote actually perfectly mirrors someone's real lived experience, right down to using the exact same words to describe it, AFTER I had already written it.

I've got cold chills.

The Short Story

After sending a message to Suzi in relation to my vignette posted last week, I wondered if blog readers might be interested in what I wrote on the Message Board over on Fictionmania in relation to what a writer proposed would be shorter fiction of 7500 words - a body swap story (MFC main female character becomes male and MMC female)? This is what I wrote:

Reviews

An honest review or two on any of our books on Kindle/Amazon or other sites would probably increase visibility a lot. This applies to all DopplerPress, AlephTwo and Azimuth books, which help support this site. If you've read one of our books, please consider leaving an honest review. :)

Thank you,
Erin

Interactive Table of Contents question

My latest offering features an interactive Table of Contents. The body of the story is preceded by a column of jump-links that allows the reader to jump to a particular chapter. I've pretty much decided that on longer works (in my mind that means >20K words) that rather than posting as a serial I'll provide this kind of means for the reader to read part of the story, leave and come back later and be able to jump to where they left off.

New story up

A Small Protest cover.png

I wrote this story some time ago. Until now it was only available as an eBook from online retailers.

It was inspired by a very real protest in 2017. It was chronicled by instinctmagazine.com in their story titled: “Boys in Skirts Beat the Heat—and the System” and featured this photo.

My apologies again

I guess at this point I sound like a broken record player. But again I owe my readership an apologie. As many of you know I've stopped posting chapters or even updating stories. I'm not going to ask your forgiveness. And at this point I feel I've lost what readership I have, not that I blame you guys. Anyway, around the middle part of October my mother passed away, she passed away in front of me, it shook me, it tossed me into a tail spin. I have seen death before, I'm a country girl, I've hunted and fished all my life.

Getting older ....

... But not growing up?

In a few hours my age switches from 59 to 60 but that's just a number!

As many will know, I have a new Tammy story out on Kindle and I will start serialising Flying High in January. I have also started writing the follow up story.

Anyway, I am having a day out on my birthday with a girlfriend in Norwich. Pictures will be on my socials.

Book Progress and Thanks

Before anything else, Happy Thanksgiving!!

Yes, it's a day early to post such - but I'll likely not have time tomorrow, what with all the usual family craziness and the spouse's 'Second Thanksgiving' we do on the following Friday for various friends who don't have close family to celebrate with on the actual day.

My Playlist... My Muse for the next chapter...

Hey everyone,

When you first sit down with a new idea in your head, what do you lean on to get started? For some people, it might be a mood, a memory, or even a single image. For some people, it could be something visual, like something they saw in real life, maybe a movie, or even something they heard.  I am curious what others use as that first spark when they begin turning an idea into an actual story.

Opinions wanted!

I'd really like to hear what people thought of Mobius.

Splitting it into parts to post is a double edged sword. Some people don't read a multipart story until it's complete, and I have to admit, I don't always, either. Especially when the writer has a track record of not finishing all of her stories. Of which I'm guilty. Lol.

Thee other side, at least in my case is it makes it where people are able to comment on things while they are fresh in their mind, rather than reading a single file and commenting on what is left at the forefront of the mind.

Where I’m At, Now That the Story Is Out There... Complete

Honestly, thank you to everyone who read the story. If you commented, sent me a DM, an email, or even just followed along quietly, please know I really appreciate it. The encouragement, excitement, and thoughtful feedback you’ve shared have meant a lot to me, and I’m grateful you chose to spend your time reading this story.

Life is busy and fun

It's been a while since I've shared any stories. I've been involved in a lot of things and had trouble blocking out time to work on my writing. But I do have one story close to completion that I'll get out soon.

Some of that activity is described with the song I wrote and posted today, "Your Love is Kind".

I've also been writing lessons for a Sunday School series I'm helping to teach with a long time friend of mine about responding to Christian Nationalism.

That has at least gotten me to develop a habit of hitting the computer for extended sessions of writing.

When Your Universe Name Needs Subtitles

So. Remember last week when I posted asking what everyone thought about "Himingrath" as a universe name?

Well, it looks like the general consensus is that Himingrath is... a mouthful. Which is kind of what I was worried about, but I was also in love with the meaning behind it and thought maybe I could make it work through sheer determination.

Turns out: I cannot.

The feedback... Well, let's just call it diplomatic. Lots of "interesting choice" and thoughtful pauses. So I've pivoted to something people can actually say without hesitation:

The Seidh Between.

Cherry Jubilee

IMG_0202.jpeg

The storyline for Cherry Jubliee has been in a state of flux for a while now. At the start it features a manga character coming to life to help the main character, Ghen. But then…I thought, what if Gehn embraced the super-heroine identify to fight for the oppressed at their high school?

Sequel to Mobius

I am working on the outline of a sequel to Mobius.

I was hoping to get more comments on Mobius than what I have. Therefore, I am looking for somebody to beta read the sequel along with Malady. In a murder mystery, a second beta reader, or even a second and third is invaluable. Especially in the area of making red herrings seem plausible.

If anybody is interested in helping, please message me. Or reply to this.

My first blog entry, a note of thanks and the future

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who read the first part of The Girl I Undressed. The response has been overwhelming in the best way. This was a story I almost set aside, and seeing it receive so much love has left me grateful and a little stunned.

Has anyone read an old book I came across

I noticed/discovered or was recommended a book on Amazon called "An Exchange of Souls" by Barry Pain. There is only one review that was German I think and the translation didn't tell me anything really.
It was apparently written in 1911, so the idea of a body swap story from 100+ years ago sounds interesting. Different societal norms, pre WW1 & WW2...also would be open to other suggestions of OLD stories like that, body or soul swap types.

Here is the Amazon link, I paid the dollar for it, but not sure when I'll start to read it.

the evolution of Games without Frontiers

Because my re-write of Games without Frontiers is almost finished, I wanted to share how this story evolved.

It started the first time I heard the song by Peter Gabriel which is apparently in reference to a reality show from Europe.

The song stuck with me, and eventually I started trying to find a story I could make from it.

The first attempt was set in World War Two, featuring a bunch of kids sent to the country to avoid the London Blitz.

But eventually I abandoned that idea, and the song kind of went into the background.

Heather and the Mess

I think my mojo is back, I've managed to crank out nearly 4000 words in about sixteen hours, and it's the first new UG story for a few years! This will form a part of UG5 when that's finished (it does exist) but that will have to follow the Tammy story that's in progress. Oh, and I want to do another Joannie Jet story.

I'm going to blame that mojo for stealing all my time!
