I received an e-mail today and clicked the link—it was from BCTS. I started reading a story from the link and immediately felt depressed as the book’s plot is similar to one of mine.
I do not mean it’s a copy….just the concept that is the same and for that, I’m not sure I can complete my WIP..
Should I continue working on it?

Keep working
Think of it as proof you have a good idea and take it as a challenge to do something great!

Thank you.
Thank you.
I’m sure I will feel better about it in a few days and will probably continue working on it…perhaps after re-working the image I use as the cover photo.
I feel your pain!
I had written three or four chapters in Kern (well before posting them) when another author started posting a story about a transwoman who has to return to the family that had rejected her, to deal with a family emergency. I almost didn’t continue! But in the end, while the two stories had similar set-ups, the end results were quite different.
Others have said there really only a few real story plot-lines out there, so you shouldn’t worry too much if you find you’ve been partially scooped. But I don’t buy that — I’ve read a number of your stories, and they are truly unique! Regardless, if your muse is speaking to you, keep your pedal to the metal.

Thank you.
Thank you.
I started on it fifteen years ago…but it was radically different and involved a magical element. The original name was “ Yuzurenai Negai” (Unyielding Wish) and the plot line involved a teenage boy who is given a bracelet that grants him a range of powers…but it also alters his body into a girl. He uses the powers to join the cheerleading squad to get close to the girl he had been admiring from afar…only to find her true nature when she announces to the squad about how pathetic the main character is. He starts using his power for nefarious purposes, like disguising as a grim reaper and flying next to her and her boyfriend while they’re driving. In time, the bracelet reverses its powers, and while he can still alter to a female form, the other powers only manifest in his make form.
Another girl, who has figured out his identity helps him get on the squad by subterfuge..and that’s about how far I got on it. Should I work on this version instead?
It has been said that all music consists of the same……
Eight notes, or twelve notes if you look at semitones, just put together in different ways.
The same is true about writing. For pretty much any plot concept you think of, someone else is probably thinking of essentially the same concept. What matters is how you get to the end of the story. Feel confident in yourself, as I am confident that you will find the right way to get there.

Two Cars Same Model Same Color
What are the odds? Actually with the millions of cars on the millions of miles of streets and highways, the odds are pretty high it will happen quite often.
Shift gears and think of all the writers posting stories and are no longer restricted to the well branded publishing houses. Blame Erin and the girls as part of the problem or the great flood of stories flooding the net instead of languishing in a drawer. Writers have run smack into the identical car situation. With so many stories now flooding into public viewing there will be similar stories but not copied or stolen which resonate with the same genre and the same basic concept.
Hugs Aylesea, keep writing sugar, there is room for your stories.

It's happened to me a few times. The answer is to put away your unfinished story and wait a bit, then finish it and post it in a new time slot.
