Something a Bit Different From QueerDispatch: Introducing Under the Rainbow

A little while ago, I shared a QueerDispatch piece about twirling in a sundress at Disney World, and how one small moment of joy can say something much larger about who gets to feel safe being themselves.

That story helped clarify something for me.

QueerDispatch needs room not only for sharp political commentary, but also for quieter, more personal stories about memory, identity, survival, and the moments that shape us long before we have the language to explain them.

That is where Under the Rainbow comes in.

Under the Rainbow is a new QueerDispatch series focused on personal stories, the kind that sit somewhere between memory and meaning. These are stories about growing up, hiding, wanting, becoming, and eventually understanding the things we once had to bury.

Today’s post is called I Didn’t Run From the Pink.

It begins with a childhood memory: a pink painting smock, a moment of panic, and a child who ran, not because pink was frightening, but because being seen was.

You can read the new Under the Rainbow story here:

And if you missed the earlier Disney piece that helped shape this direction, you can read that here:

She Twirled in a Sundress at Disney World, and for a Moment the World Let Her Be Herself

This is something a little softer from QueerDispatch, but still rooted in the same belief:

Our stories matter because someone else is still trying to survive theirs.
