Tell Your Muse to Behave
You are a victim of a too active mind.

Shurely
...you mean a two active mind?
Dogs have owners; cats have staff. Grand-daughters have minions.
This plagues me all the time...
This morning I woke up smiling because the kernel of a new story had woke me with vivid images, snips of dialog and plot problems to work out. The new story title I dreamed up was "Harry, Frank, and Beans" -- three men who jointly own a hobby gold mine in the desert.
This, while I am actively working on five different stories at once, I don't need.
Hugs,
Erin

Erin, "Harry, Frank, and Beans" ?
A new variety from the Bush Beans people?

A problem as old as time...
Its crazy. I was writing a story and then I got so distracted that I started working on a story that is a rom-com. I got so distracted that the project I was initially working on is now put to the side because well I think I would prefer working on some hilarity and shennanigans right now than something that has a little more emotional depth. That can be so exhausting. So you're not alone.
A guilty solution
I invariably run across the same issue whenever I’m doing a long story. If it’s humorous, my muse serves me up something serious. If it’s serious, my muse become antic. My only solution is to trigger my deep-seated guilt by starting to post the longer story and promising my readers a specific installment schedule. I can’t bear the thought of disappointing people!

A demonic muse? I get that.
Several years ago, a friend gave me this Demona figure to watch over me as I write, since to use her words, "Your muse is demonic and tends to pull you around by your hair." I added the speech bubbles. :)
