Hey peeps.
I'm almost finished with Mud Creek. I'm planning out my next story.
I want to write something more "down and dirty" but also something a bit more "supernatural"
I want to use 1994 Mud Creek as the setting. So same old Southern Illinois town.
I'm inspired by the White Wolf games I dabbled with in high school, Especially Mage The Ascension
It's about two college buddies getting into the world of Occult and biting off more then they can chew. One thing I can't decide. Is the magic real or is it all a ruse?
short bit.
Christine jammed the spade in the black tilled garden soil.
"Magic? You looking for magic?" Christine laughed, "Yeah, it's in my blood. I can do shit you wouldn't believe. Magic is trip, but it don't come for free and it certainly don't come to dipshit little boys like you two. You want to see some magic, stay right here whilst I go fetch my Shotgun. I'll some magic for sure."
Burt put his hands up, "Wait, we'll pay," he said.
Christine smiled, her teeth were yellow from her unfilted cigarerretes, "OK, that changes things, how much?"

It’s occasionally possible . . .
. . . to leave resolution of that question up in the air. Something for the reader to puzzle over. :)

Mage
If Mage: The Ascension is the inspiration...then the better question might be: "Is anything real?"
When reality itself bends to your will, coincidence and paradox shall dance across your palms...
I was fascinated with this
I was fascinated with this game setting, but I have to admit I never once played it. I think it would require a very dedicated and creative group to be playable.
As far as inspiration, of my favorite concepts of the game was fooling paradox by making magic appear to be random coincidence.
