So, new story, almost 8,000 words; post all at once or just drag out the chapters?

My tuppence
8,000 words is within the realm of what most folks read at one sitting, though I usually try to stay between 3,000-6,000 words. If there’s a good breaking point in the middle — maybe with a nice cliffhanger! — you could break it in two and post over consecutive days?
Anyhow— most important thing, you have a new story. :)

Thanks for the feedback
After trying to figure out the multi-chapter organizer thingie, I gave up. Working on cleaning the story up to ensure I can copy/paste it easier. I also need to reread it again since it feels off somehow. I just hope the other stories aren't affecting writing style. Take care,
Diana
Ditto
Like Emma, I usually post in 3k-6k chapters. But stories that would only be two chapters I sometimes post all at once. I have a 10k Halloween story I am planning to post all at once this Halloween (while Jody's Story continues posting in chapters).
I, for one,
Am looking forward to some new stories this Hallowe'en! Can barely wait and looking forward to i\seeing the new story

Length
As Em says, 8k is readable as a short story. I split longer things here, such as the various tales in my 'Colours' anthology (Black and White, Warm Hound, Colder Dish, Blindside, Closing Doors) but when I publish them, they are done as one piece. My normal 'chunk' offering for this site is 1.5k--2k words. That allows me to tune things when people spot mistakes.
My Sunlight and Shade, for example, comes in at 7.2k, I published Hummingbird, something intended to be a short story, in the same 'one chapter style. It's 53.5k words.
Thanks for the comment,
The single story seems to the consensus, with 8k being the upper limit for a short story. Take care,
Diana
Personally, I find most posts too short.
The average adult reading speed is about 238 WPM. So at 8K you've got just over half-an-hour's read going.
My writing runs 15 to 20K words, I'll post that in a single go. I'm sure that there are people who give my stories a pass because of the length, but I tend to not worry about it.
