I contacted Amazon, and I got a response very promptly. They have provided my account with a promotional credit in the amount of the bank charges, and their billing department will be investigating the issue. There is a possibility they may credit my bank account as well, but even if they don't I'm satisfied.

When for some reason one of the Amazon suppliers sent my order to the address in US I used once 10 years ago, and the order managed to get lost on the way somwhere between Frankfurt and Boston, Amazon was quite prompt returning my money. And from tracking information it seems that they managed to deliver my order to the hotel somwere in RI :-) But I was not charged for it :-)
