Being the computer dummy I am, I've been searching for the Whately story(ies) about the Halloween invasion in which Cat McQuisten was killed. I have had NO luck, since I don't know the author nor the story title(s).

that page has all the links to the main story that weaves through Halloween week and ends on the invasion night --that is when Erik the guard/ marine becomes cat/ Eldritch the artificer

Can't remember the name of the story.

The former members of Erik\Catlin's Unit (Dragonslayers) join the Whateley Security Department.

I think also the former CO also declassifies their files (if only for the Psycologists) and has a heated discussion with Liz Carson.

Which is where the link comes in, because when Erik\Catlin was required to see one of the shrinks, due to the nature of the subject matter answers like "I can't answer that" were given and Erik\Catlin was always seen as being evasive or stubborn, when s\he was not allowed by law to revael anything

While Erik\Catlin, was a secondary character in the some of the stories I was thinking of

The protagonist for one in Erik\Catlin's youngest sister Miranda Nichole Mahren in the story
Siblings and Savages parts 01, 02 & 03
And in the the other is Erik\Catlin's Mother Natalie Nichole Mahren in The Gates of the Garden

I've been reading original Whateley canon stories recently,

I'm currently finishing Revelations by Kristin Darken, which starts in mid-October 2006 and runs for a week or two after that.

I'm having fun going through them, reading them in the order they were posted there. I haven't quite reached the point of the Hallowe'en invasion stories yet, but I should get there fairly soon if I keep reading as much as I have been doing recently.

If you're at Revelations, you've only gotten to 2005 so far. There's another 12 years of writing go after that.... enjoy! :P

The whole story arc regarding Eric Mahren and his transformation into Caitlin and the events in Darwin Australia may be the very best I've ever read.
