If I had it to do all over?
...I think the only thing I might ask for (prayer?) is that I would have known about my gender issues before marriage. At least, I hope, I would have been brave enough to share it with my wife before hand. As it stands, I truly fear that after twenty-five plus years that I'll ever be able to share 'me' with her. I'm so glad in this story that Harriet and Susan knew each other and that their relationship was an integral part of their marriage. Thanks for this story!

me too hon
I suspect my ex would never have married me if she knew about dorothy. But, then i wouldnt have my daughter, so i cant kick too hard. I really think that unless your wife has a religious objection, she would deal with it. hugs.

Well that is a suprise!
Somewhat new lite on letting the in-laws know that they have a Cameleon (not a Gecko) in the family. Bit of a surprise that Mum didn't try to sue for defamation of caricature. :) Sorry sometimes I cant help but play with words.
So much to read, so little time and only one of me :)

Very sneaky revenge!
All the clues were there - all she had to do was open her eyes (and her mind). But no, she remains cocooned in her little golf club universe, where it transpired her idea of Mr. Perfect, James King, was a scheming fraudster - eventually convicted, but not before he'd drained the savings of many golf club members (although, strangely, not Dorothy)...
Meanwhile Susan goes from strength to strength, her first novel being a bestseller - and no doubt her second will be so too. She could potentially be sued by Dorothy, but she probably knows deep down that the picture painted of her is broadly accurate. Besides which, suing would probably focus even more positive media attention on her errant daughter and partner-in-law.

Conservatives or Paladins? I don't know which are more insufferable...
Enjoyable
Thanks Samantha, I enjoyed this story.

Oh, lovely!
Mama has a choice now. Learn and grow, or stagnate and lose her daughter. With her personality, I don't see a reconciliation in the near future, but maybe someday she will activate a few more brain cells.
Great story! (Super Kudo)

Mother in Law
I do hope dear Mama will take care of herself and watch out for falling houses.
Funny story, but sad that some people are just so addicted to malice
they leave you no choice but to just stay the hell away from them.
I don't think she will ever see how she drove off first her husband
then her daughter, and barring some miraculous change of heart
(could happen, in TG fiction all things are possible) she'll die
bitter + alone + blaming everyone but herself for this.
~~~hugs, Veronica
They wrote a song about her:
Mother in law
"Mother-In-Law"
(Mother in Law) Mother In Law
(Mother in Law) Mother In Law
The worst person I know
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
A she worries me, so
If she'd leave us alone
A we would have a happy home
Sent from down below
Mother in Law Mother in Law
Satan should be her name
To me they're bout the same
Every time I open my mouth
She steps in, tries to put me out
How could she stoop so low
[Instrumental Interlude]
I come home with my pay
She asks me what I made
She thinks her advice is the constitution
But if she would leave that would be the solution
And don't come back no more
Mother in law
My......mother in law, ah
Oh yeah
I have to confess that I'd never heard this one before, but it might have been written for Samantha's story. Thanks for suggesting it Veronica.
Oh yes
Lovely story.
Always nice to see one of the bigots get their cum-uppance.
I like it.
Growing old disgracefully.
I wish we had been able to
I wish we had been able to see how Harriet's Dad took all this, he probably was laughing his head off. Pay back is a "bitch" once in awhile, and Susan was that "bitch". Ha, Ha.
I knew a woman much like Dorothy.
This story is well written and with lots of images that lets the reader "see" what is going on. The dialogue is like a surround sound stereo system and lets the reader "hear" what the characters are saying. Thank you for sharing.
a last dig
Along with the daughters key hanging on the door, there should have been a copy of the book. To further turn the screw in the ol' battleax.
Ah, yes. And even if the old hag goes to the media about Susan, it will only make her look like a fool.
Absolutely wonderful!
I loved every word of this story; if only I could have had such revenge on my mother-in-law!
Many Thanks
for all the nice comments.
I guess that this simple tale has hit msny of the right notes.
Mother's are a breed unto themselves. They think they know best for their little darlings no matter how old they are. They mean well but sometimes they just get in the way.
I have to admit -
I recently said something about sci-fi movies were not my normal choice of reading.
However if somebody wrote a story about sending all nasty MIL's to a planet where they could live in adoration of each other, I would probably read it!
I totally loved this!
I just love this story about a coniving mother-in-law who just doesn't get it! I also love the relationship between Harriet and Dave/Susan. The world would be so much better if there were more people like them who are so loving and so understanding that their entire relationship is based on uncontitional love & trust!
read again.. and enjoyed again
This is so thought provoking... about many things - the rancid Mother-in-Law (like I have one of those!), the comment from Dorothy about a wife probably not marrying her if she had known in advance (mine didn't, we married, but it would have been wonderful if she had known and accepted - which she wouldn't!0 and so many other aspects that are relevant to all of us. I'd love to read a sequel to develop how love can be regenerated after such a cruel separation. Love and thanks, Ginger xx
