Speaking of souls...
The Soul Does Not Perish hmmmm... could the twins be Chase's other two friends reincarnated? (Yeah, I know, one was a girl, but hey, this is a TG site! ;) )
Might all the other calls be on similar subjects (weren't all the caller's female?) ie, other loved-ones among the passengers being reincarnated as newborns?
Hmmm... maybe sex in the hotspring wasn't such a great idea... Little spermies got to go swimming around on their own while waiting for the next batch of bathers ;)

Ouch!
I guess The Entity wants to start right away with a bunch of potent magic users. I think Chase is going to have to open a day care center! This is going to get really interesting.
Going to??? heh.
Love the story!
Now wasn't that a total
Now wasn't that a total surprise for Chase? I am now wondering what all the other callers have going on in their lives that they need Chase so badly, they can't all be pregnant, can they? Being as one of the callers is Stewart.
Stu...
Hey, with magic, anything is possible! Stu may be the world's first pregnant man, or the first pregnant woman who used to be a man.
I wonder when Chase is going to get pregnant.
That Had to Be ...
and I don't think it was anything but a pleasant surprise to those who didn't feel it had to happen. Very interesting chapter. You have opened this story up to quite a number of possibilities. Of course, the only ones are the ones you discover. Love it.

I really enjoy this story
I really enjoy this story and lots of your others. I look forward to more. I'm especially looking forward to finding out what happens next.
Is that mom & dad or Moms?
Wow, can you say Mom will have a lot to say about this when she finds out. She will be a grandmother from her son, and still has a daughter for the father to lead to the altar in virgin white, or at least for now that is true. Will Chase's identity need to be adapted again somewhat to show her as the father? Wow, that was a odd sentence. Seems to me that the Entity is wanting to move things along with the book being recovered. I will sure that there was going to be more going on with Janie than that, I thought she was changing physically. Still, that is not totally outside the realm of things, and I bet some of the others are having things going on with them as well. I did feel good about my guess on the time travel, and that there was a good reason behind it, even if we don't have all the answers yet. Loving the story, I look for one of your story updates often as they are always a treat.

*chortle*
I'd say that being pregnant with twins is VERY changing, physically :)
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Still as good as ever.
This could be a very good thing for Chase. She seems to still have some feeling for women and there's the fact that having her at the house might get her more than OCD-in-femininity Mom something else to focus on.
Bailey Summers
Can you say responsibility?
Chase not only has a potential dangerous artifact to safeguard, but also a pair of children that's due in about 6 months. Talk about complications!
Hugs!

New birth
I think that you could even say these children were "magical," and may be the very first of a new wave of children born unto magic.

At least Janie seems the decent sort
... and not all white trash and although certainly she lives in diminished circumstances. Chase ironically could have easily claimed that they are not hers ( well duh ) but of course she is not that way. The burdens on her shoulders are beginning to really build up.
The tribe she built up on the island seems like a tribe in reality now since Chase is capable of handling the transportation issues somewhat. What the other folks want to talk to her about will no doubt be interesting as I suspect all the folks who have either witnessed or benefited from her (then his) powers may call upon her to provide help where possible.
Finally, her mother may be OCD about the presentation thing but does not mean she is wrong. I have had to use some of those tools at times too and it is important. It more than certainly helped with the Grand Druid she encountered. I suspect it will be a while before she gets elevated to level fifteen as I understand that requires a lot more experience based on what I've read. I suspect the Island entity will provide if needs must.
A fantastic chapter, chock full of stuff to chew on and contemplate.

The books of Lore
So does this mean that I will never remember any of the books that I read of yours, Lilith? OTOH, that does explain this inexplicable urge for a serving of monkey brains .... and a bottle of Chianti.

Kim
Janie keeps the babies. Good. :)
There may be different reasons to her choosing this. Disregarding any absurdities like teen rebellion, we have a few decent reasons - she may be 'accepting the responsibility', she may be really attached to them and feel them as her own, and/or she may be concious that these are the only children Chase will ever have as his male gene bearers and not those who came from her tummy. Still, it learns a lot of brownie points for her!
I don't think Janie's mother is going to object to helping with money. Sure she may attempt 'we'll do fine' gambit, but I am positive she is realistic about the situation, and that Chase can easily convince her with 'no money in the world will' speech, like 'NMitWW bring back my friends who died in that crash, NMitWW help me change to what I was. But it may help you, your daughter, and our children.'
However, what is more interesting that there were three more people calling. Can someone remind me who they were, we've mostly had first names given for the survivors. As it is, a guess is that they may be having some lingering effects from the island.

and you already know about Janie
An update on the "cancer" victim. I found out this was determined by a CAT scan... no biopsy was taken, so there's a slim chance it's something else. We're crossing our fingers, but you know how that goes. I wanted to go down to the Air Force Base and brain the doctor that told her she had cancer, but I'd probably be on the news soon after. Granted, odds are it is, but you can't tell what kind until after the biopsy. He'd already told her she wouldn't be alive in five years. For severely educated people, doctors are some of the stupidest people on the planet.

Er... the list...
Ack, well that blows my earlier post out of the water... (literally)
It would have been a funny situation though.
Chase: "What! I haven't had sex with any of these women, except Janie!"
Janie: "Yeah, but we only had sex in the hot spring."
Woman 1: "Ewwww! And I went in there to bathe at least twice immediately after you came out!"
Woman 2: "Same here!"
Woman 3: "Me too!"
Mom: "Chaaaaaaase."

Keeping the babies
A lot of Christians are very adamant about their pro-life stance, and will do what they have to do. Janie is probably like that.
Considering how horny Janie was on the island, I suspect that the entity did everything it could to make this happen.
The Soul Does Not Perish (Part 6)
Will be interesting to see if the child of Chase is magical.

This story continues to grab me, and I thank you immensely for it.
I just want to know when Chase is going to open the book.
Maybe Janie and her Mum will move into Chase's - I don't recall a Janie Dad nor siblings.
And I need to check if Druids are born Druids or made.
Maybe Janie is the Mother of all future Druids.

The only way you don't turn
The only way you don't turn into a zombie is to make FOUR savings throws, progressively harder.
I think I remember it being 35 vs Will, then 42 vs Will, then 58 vs Dex (or something like it) and then 48 against Will again. All have to be made or you wind up mindless and drooling with a craving for brains to replace your own.
It says in the description that NO ONE has ever successfully made all four and activated the book.

We already know that Chase's
We already know that Chase's brain felt like it was going to melt when she simply browsed the titles of the library,so she would be wary of reading it for that alone. But we've also established that magic is similar but not rigid like the rules in the game. (no spell components needed, scrying spell not working like it was supposed to, etc.)
So she won't voluntarily read the book unless something comes along like... the magnetic polarity of the earth shifts and it's Day after Tomorrow time or something equally as Armageddon'ish pops up.
Of course this is me writing this thing, so what are the odds... ahem.
It will serve a purpose at some point in the story.

It'll be like Terry
It'll be like Terry Pratchett, where the Librarian picked up a book to smash over the head of someone digging up through the ground.
Humptulips seminal work "How to Kille Insects" - all 900 pages of it (or so).
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
The Booooook...
It would make a dandy weapon. Open it and point it at someone -- not in that order, though. It ought to be easier to deal with a zombie than a powerful wizard or something like that.
So I guess...
...she won't be tossing it into the foundations of the new skyscraper they're building across town, just as they start pouring the concrete in.
Then again, given the power of the book, it probably wouldn't take too kindly to being imprisoned in concrete...
Meanwhile, it'll be interesting to see what's up with the beach tribe...
There are 10 kinds of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't...
As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!
I just want to be a fly on the wall...
... when Chase runs explains to her mom that Chase is going to be a mother soon. Of twins. :)
Selling her on letting Janie come stay should be easy after that...
Even by proxy, Chase's experience of pregnancy should be eye-opening for her.
If Janie's so poor, what was she doing on a flight to Hawaii? Did I miss something?
Definitely enjoying this story!

So Chase is a Daddy.
Or whatever. Figured that one would happen given the circumstances. I'm glad to see that the female Chase is going to accept responsibility and do what she can to help. Says a lot for the character right there.
The time travel? It's magic. And she found something really important when she went back.
Now, what is going on with the other people who called her while she was gone?l

I love the pregnancy. I knew it would happy but forgot about it for a couple chapters. Very nice to be reminded.

I hate her mother! >_<
seriously why does she need to be so perfect? lessons when she speaks too casually?
what's wrong with tomboy's, or just girls with a little more masculine or androgynous side to them???
If anyone would try to make me do/wear what chase's mom makes her do/wear, I'd be so infuriated! I HATE her!!! >_<
now that the ventings out, I really like this story :--)
Mommy Dearest
If her mother is going a bit overboard, she has a good reason. She is trying to stuff a whole childhood worth of indoctrination into a few short months. Also, I'm sure that she is feeding her own frustrated urges to share girly stuff with her daughter.
I suspect she will back off once Chase is done with her 'Basic Training.'
Hey, three months of Basic Training is by no means going overboard. Also, it is doing Chase some good.
Well, I'm not saying it
Well, I'm not saying it doesn't do chase any good, but like it was said, she didn't even wear any kind of pants during summer, she has to speak ladylike, etc.
I can understand the need for basic, but this mother isn't stopping at basic, she's going for perfection. how many girls of 18 do you know, who don't were any jeans? how many do you know that aren't allowed to even say "sorry mom, i've got to go now" or else get punished?
This is far beyond just basic training, I know this is just fiction but I also haven't met any mother yet of a transgendered person that tried to basic train them (and I know quite a few youngsters like me with accepting and supporting parents).
Sorry it's just that I get really angry with any kind of story that forces feminization on someone, even if it's for their own good, It should still be their choice.
Forced Feminization?
Seriously? While I'm sure we can find certain lines, take them out of context, and come to that conclusion, that isn't the case here.
The one that forced femininity on Chase was the entity and himself in chapter 3. He could have chosen to stay in a halfway state and maybe relied on modern medicine to rectify the situation, but he didn't. Beyond that we have his parents, mostly his mother, that recognize society has standards. It all depends on the way you want to be treated. Like it or not, stereotypes exist and everyone judges people on the way they look and act.
Think of it this way.
Ex: if two young ladies at the hospital emergency room walk up to you and one of them is in nice slacks, blouse, and a lab coat with a stethoscope around her neck and the other is in jeans and a tank with sandals. You don't have any other information in order to base your decision, which would you look to for medical advice?
Me? I'm going with the well dressed one. Even though the one with the jeans and tank might be vastly more experienced, I've already made a judgment about her based on the way she's presenting herself.
That's what Chase's mother recognizes. The same goes with speech patterns. If someone sounds intelligent and competent they are going to be more respected than those that use slang and street talk to get their point across.
Chase is an adult and can walk away at anytime she chooses. The only person that's forcing her is herself because she knows that her mother is right.

Had to have a little giggle, since ...
... this caused one of my dodgy synaptic gaps to flash.
L's example made me think of the old saying: "Light travels much faster than sound, which is why some people appear bright until they speak"
Not that I'm implying anything here, it was just the presentation thing that triggered it.
"The Cost of Living Does Not Appear To Have Affected Its Popularity"
in most, but not all, instances
time and place
Lil, you are right about a doctor (or a lawyer, or a high society lady, for that matter) needing to look and sound "lady-like". But for example, if I wanted to learn to ride a horse, and my choices are a woman in a fancy dress and heels, and a woman in jeans and a t-shirt and boots, I am going with the casually-dressed woman, because I am going to make the assumption she has actually ridden before. Chase is being asked to be very active, so it should be alright for her to wear more appropriate clothes for what she is doing.
"Treat everyone you meet as though they had a sign on them that said "Fragile, under construction"
dorothycolleen
Bad example in that
Bad example in that instance. You're thinking late 19th century when women rode side-saddle.
A better one would be a person in jeans and a t-shirt that reads "Love Pink" or a person in "proper" riding clothes. There are always professional clothes for the job that needs to be performed. That's my point. Even adventurers have a certain style that commands attention, which she shows off later.
