One of the things I love...
About how you've written this story is that you let us into her head and allow us to witness the changes to her mind and way of thinking/outlook on (her) life as they happen, without letting them detract form the overall story itself. Wonderfully done Mags, I'm looking forward to seeing what you cook up for the next chapter.

I once read some study,
That compared Bugs Bunny to Coyote and just how important a character like that is to a culture. There always has to be someone, something, that won't accept the norm and taunts those who do with pranks and other things.

Another well-written chapter
Another well-written chapter in another well-written Maggie Finson story.
That said, I can't say I like the direction taken here. Our protagonist is a 16-year-old who has just been through a gender change, a species change, and has recently found out she resides in a twilight zone living nightmare of a town. Now she's adopting a baby? Really? Dontcha think that may be piling up her plate a bit too high?
She is exceptional, and has exceptional challenges
Those challenges are what makes her story so good! Cindy, like most of Maggie's characters, is very "up to the challenge." The dragons have told us in this chapter that she has many gifts. If she truly is Coyote, she has a great deal of power-more than enough to handle the hunters.
My only complaint is that it seems like things are coming to a head, which signals the end of this story. I don't know if I feel sad about that, or happy to look forward to a new story from Maggie.

I spent nearly five years in the land of 'em - where they can be found on road signs, in shops, on maps and even on the flag! Mythology has it that the Welsh Red Dragon successfully fought off the Saxon White Dragon (although there was a brief interlude when both were sedated with drugged mead and hidden under Snowdon as the Welsh dragon's pained shrieks caused women to miscarry, animals to perish and plants to become barren.)
However, in this particular case, they're also pawns in a way - Linda's original parents "fell by trechary" so are no longer able to look after her; the dragons fostered her courtesy of the great debt they owed to her original parents; Lady Moon informed them the placement would only last until Cindy found them and Linda.
Incidentally, on top of everything else, Lady Moon appears to be Cindy's "Mother" and holder of her True Name...
So now we know that Linda is an as yet unidentified type of Unseen, and depending on exactly what happened to her original parents, there may be an additional type - however, it's also possible that it was intra-species treachery rather than inter-species, and someone from Linda's family's own faction stood to benefit from the demise of her parents (c.f. monarch succession wars)...

Also, Cindy looks like she might not be _entirely_ were. She's Coyote (Coy as in being 'coy' and 'yo!' 'tay', rather than 'cai-yo-tea'); whether that's an actual incarnation of the Trickster, or simply an avatar, that's up for grabs. Keep in mind that almost every panthenon has a trickster. Loki, Coyote, Hermes/Mercury, etc.

Cindy is in for a hard time now that she has a baby one the Diana (lady moon) has given to her & her adopted mom has called the entire Cotyote clan together & the females of the clan will die protecting Cindy & Linda.

Moon Goddess question to anyone
Maggie, I almost passed this one but I am very glad so far that I didn't. The storyline, the characters, etc etc are all on point. Now that the praise is out of the way, I can ask my question of anyone.... When she was first transformed, I remember a wolf came up to her and was basically grinning at her. Was this ever revealed if I go back and read it a third time? Or have I gone brain dead and just missed it. I was thinking it was the boy friend, but am not sure.
I believe the wolf was a white one
... so it is highly probable that wolf is Tracy from EOF's series 'For the Fairest'. It was kinda one changee saying hello to another changee thing.
As we know Tracy is a friendly sort so it had to be just a friendly greeting sort of thing.

While that would be the kind of thing that Dani *might* do if she were feeling friendly, she doesn't have the ability to turn into an animal. The furthest she can go in terms of cross-species transformations is throwing a sheet over her head, cutting out eye holes and calling herself a ghost. Although, I wouldn't put it past her to try that on someone...

In the monotheistic meaning of the word 'God' (which is just a description, it's not actually what 'God' is called in Judaism or Christianity), Coyote isn't God.
However, in the polytheistic traditions, he definitely _is_ a god.
You see, the Native Americans have/had a mostly monotheistic religion as well, they were just also animists. You had a major god (Father Sky is one reference, as I recall. Maybe Mother Earth as well, but that's hazy), and a number of spirits. Some were ancestors, some were spirits of the animals, trees, and so forth, others were totems - spirits of a _kind_ of animal, or animals as a collective, rather than individual spirits. Coyote is one of the most predominant and common spirits of the Native American tribes of the US. (South of that were the Aztec/Maya/Inca, and they had their own pantheons)
He's considered to also be one of the most powerful spirits.

That Coyote relied on wit, subterfuge, and speed. He never did really show 'godlike' powers other than whimsical transformations as far as I can recall. Coyote's power was based on intellect, not being able to simply brush things away.

Yup - but it also illustrates _power_. Resurrection, creation, and destruction. He's an archetype, with the powers thereof. Raven, Fox, Coyote - all powers of their own, and in a lot of stories.
That's why I looked at Cindy/Cynthia as an Avatar. She embodies the core attributes of Coyote, but isn't Coyote himself. She's herself - which is even _more_ Coyote :)
