as for the name Mirage Rose, personally I would switch it around Rose Mirage.

Its cool, its sort of mysterious, and it really works for her. I kinda hope she gets to keep some of her boy self, even if she gets comfortable being a she. After all, there's nothing wrong with tomboys, is there?

I think you may have been looking for the "Jaws" theme instead of the Sharks theme. At least the only sharks I thought of with a theme were the gang in West Side Story (not very doom-y) and the "We're gonna need a bigger boat" one (verrry doom-y).

Why do I get the intense feeling this could be a very bad thing. (It could be a good thing but....). There are way too many things that could go wrong. It could go so far as to kill Mom. Getting her all upset. Causing a major scene, and getting the MCO and/or cops called in. Someone from h! working there. Other idiots working/being there. This needs a lot of fore-thought, and maybe some input from the neighbors, and mom and dad. It sounds really dangerous. What if Mom turns out to be a mutant-hater herself. Mary Sue may not be aware of something like that.
MCO and temp ID
The MCO could be a MAJOR threat to her personal safety. They have already been to school looking for her, and they have to be aware of the police run and near riot at her home. If she waltzes in there unprepared they may decide to "vanish" her. She may think to take Mom and Dad, and a couple of lawyers, and leave word with other outsiders as to where she is going, and for them to sound the alarm if she doesn't call by a certain time. Once they see her temp ID from the doctor and match up her powerset with the description from the "innocent student" that was savagely assaulted at school, they may decide they have the evil mutant in their hot, grimy little paws and detain her or worse.

So her mom is still alive
I agree a visit has risks but she needs to do it, for both their sakes. Maybe she will learn of more relatives who are alive or even mutants.
I only hope mom wasn't or doesn't feel responsible for her child's death. I hope Alzheimer's or dementia hasn't taken her mind.
I wonder, but maybe Whateley will figure it out... Why no burn out? Her change was quite substantial and very fast. Did the magic protect her?
And as to her powers, what were Mary's? IE what of Melody's powers are from her mutation and which are from Mary? Or did Mary have some similar to hers? Mary did say she was *moving things* shortly before she was killed. So did she bring in a new power set, perhaps the TK or the magic or did she simply enhance/multiply the power and control of what Melody would have had anyways?
And did she turn Melody into a girl or was it Melody's own BIT that did it?

I keep thinking of Jade's reaction to the pajamas if she gets to see them after Mel finally goes to Whateley. I better make sure MJ makes her use them at the appropriate time.
Of course things would only get worse after she learns about Mel's powers.

Jade giving her famous puppy eyes:"Please? Pretty please?"
Mel: "Okay, I'll try. Just turn off those puppy eyes, please."
That night the Whateley security caught the Goobers trying to shoot down a 30 feet tall pink Hello Kitty that was dancing to her own theme song in front of Poe Cottage.
So ready for the "Cute Squad."
And the Jade/Mel thing so had me laughing.

I wonder if she went to her own funeral. That would have been difficult.
I wonder if Melody can play host to two spirits. It would be interesting if Mary Sue's mother died from shock/happiness after hearing from her long-dead daughter, and decided to join her inside of Melody.
Having a tearful family reunion inside of you would be quite an experience. Just think -- two giddy bubbly pink-loving girls bouncing up and down, and no place to escape.
