What a beautiful story
It brought tears to my eyes.
Mums usually know their children more than fathers do - it's a 'mother' thing.

Some friends have reminded me about how much a part of my whole life Andrea has been. A Lion-nell of sorts. As far as the story goes, dear heart? I can hardly see the screen with the tears just flowing. Very precious family and a lovely story. Thank you!
Love, Andrea Lena
letting it be open ended
it sounds like Dad is going to let Lion/Nell figure out how much of either gender he/she needs to be. If only more dads would be so understanding!
Very beautiful story
This is a beautiful story. Glad it was posted in time for the contest.

Nell knows how to care for others, today she cares for herself as well.
A very nice story Anam.

Comment? What Comment?
There is no comment that does this work justice, as with all of your work that I have read, now if you just finish a few series? I am always looking forward to your writings.
Yes, I loved this story, I
Yes, I loved this story, I love how Nell was willing to help her family cope through their loss and help her father raise his daughter.
Wow!
I don't know what to say. Very beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it.

Great Story
Nice use of the song, clever play on the protagonist's name, and I really liked it that Lionel couldn't definitively say where he fit on the gender spectrum.
Works really well emotionally, and from a technique standpoint I think it's up there with just about anything on the site.
Really good reading this -- thanks.

Absolutely beautiful, my friend....
Sweet love all around and a very happy ending... ...though I'd love to read the further adventures of Lion-Nell: That nice girlfriend for example.
I completely loved the story and the characters. It didn't hurt that Scarlet Ribbons was one of the favorite songs of my childhood and that my dad used to sing it to me.
Thanks for the happy reminder,
Ole
We are each exactly as God made us. God does not make mistakes!
Gender rights are the new civil rights!
Sweet . .
Sweet and wonderful story.
And one of my favorite songs.
Thank you for sharing this delightful story with us.
Actually, there is no Lionel and maybe never has been. Nell accepted the responsibility of taking care of her father and little sister. Her mom had made sure she knew all the things she needed to do to keep the family together. Now, that Nell had come to their house to continue to make it a home where love lived and was shared, Her father decided that Nell should stay. Even though her father, Steven, was wrong about her not being able to go to school in dresses and skirts, Steven still loved both of his daughters. So, Steven felt a certain amount of pride when he said they needed to go, so he could make a few fathers jealous.
This is such a heart warming and delightful story.

"If I have to be this girl in me, Then I have the right to be."
Lionel is very much for real!
The commentator here is quite wrong about the protagonist.
Lionel is very much a boy, although he takes pleasure in playing the roles of a homemaker for his father and a big sister to Emily. But even though he's still a boy, dressing en femme is a legacy received from his mother, that he has decided to continue for as long as Nell is needed. Remember, Nell reminds their father that Lionel ranks crossdressing between baseball and ice hockey.
Peace & blessings!

So many tears
The story has really resonated in me! Even more so, because of my own personal circumstances. But when I listend to the song on which this story is based, it was impossible to stem the flow of tears.
Thank you!!!
Jessica
Hmmm, Sniffle Sniffle....
I really think you should have included a "Kleenex Alert" at the top of the page for this story Anam! Oh this is soooo sweet and sad and oddly enough happy. Such a range of emotions elicited when reading this V-Day tale, Nicely done Rev.! (Hugs) Taarpa
