Excellent stuff, indeed
Love the continuation, and the expanding difficulties and potential problems.
Bloody well done.
Will dash off now to update the Appendix entries as appropriate.
Excellent Story Telling
Besides your ability to draw the scene for each setting in vivid detail, you have a masterful grasp of giving each actor, actress an excellent dialog. Of course I was hooked by your writing when I read "Somewhere Else Entirely". And thank God I did not find it until after you had finished the story. Now I find myself where I wish I was somewhere else entirely, waiting for each chapter you bless us with "The Voyage of the Visund".
Beautiful story telling, all the hallmarks of a Master Word Smith.
Have fun with life, it's too short to take seriously

Great chapter
I am a bit apprehensive about what will happen next.
So far the transferree may be on the outdoorsy and macho side based on the preponderance of the evidence.
Such a person may not react well to becoming female.
The Palarandi ambassador is an ass, cut in the same mold as Morlan and will be trouble.
Now they have to make everybody oathbound not to tell anyone else about it.
I can see some severe friction ahead as Eriana, Maralin and Wallesan tries to hold it together.
The ambassador should really be sent back do matter what at this point, having already gain shitlist status with Wallesan.
For an ambassador, he is pants when it comes to diplomacy.
I have a feeling the
I have a feeling the ambassador may be part of the source of the political problems with steel ships in the Navy briefly mentioned in Snep's day out.
Interest
I have to assume the great plan needs her some how
Well, there goes...
Well, there goes Maralin’s attempt to write down new items to ‘patent’. Very nice chapter. The twists and turns in this chapter work very well.
I do wonder if They’ll take the pram in the morning and do a second search of the area where they found the new transferee.
Maralin should be helping search for ‘Earth Stuff’
Unless items are secured so well that it will not fall far from a person.
Return of the Archons indeed ^_^
While they are breaking camp
While the crew is breaking camp, Maralin, Wallesan, and a couple men could go search again. It cannot hurt to give the area a second look. Maybe something was uncovered when the driftwood was harvested for firewood.
I agree
That is I agree that another search should be done. Especially it should involve Maralin. Why Maralin? Because s(he) would have an idea of what might be in the area.
Why search again? Moved wood as stated by others. But even more, a change in the light will move shadows, so things that were not seen in the evening will have the sun shine on them in the morning and therefore may be revealed.
Oh and that ambassador? I think that he needs to be in charge of privy inventory (counting the total number of privies in the whole valley and not to return to the palace until he has a correct number for those that exist). He is so stuck in the mud that he might as well be a permanent installation.
You’ve seen those ‘ecological” or “.green” pencils
You’ve seen those “ecological” or “green” pencils with a clear varnish. The crew hasn’t and they easily could have missed things that blend in, as they don’t know of their existence.
Maralin would recognise these things. Heck, it would be a hoot if he found a staple military spice— a large bottle of Tabasco.
Situational authority
They should introduce the an official form of situational authority with the Navy, basically where expertise in a field and responsibility for related operations overrides rank when that expertise is relevant, right now Maralin would have situational authority over how to handle the new guest, more generally it would apply to specialists, such as medical officers ordering bedrest, engineers keeping the ship running and making sure the engine doesn't blow up or anything like that, quartermasters taking care of weapons and inventory, navigators whose responsibility is making sure the ship doesn't sink itself hitting something, and so on. Basically the little diplomat would have no case for presumed authority, the higher nobles other than Eriena would have limited authority in this case too. Eriena has ultimate authority as this is a case of deciding whom is going to be on her ship such, but still when they structure their Navy they need to have official situational authority built in, we see it a bit already in an unofficial capacity, but as the not very diplomatic diplomat has shown it is by no means official or enforced, rather viewed as common sense.
I am not going to speculate much on what their guest was doing before arrival maybe on the run, the bush knife and cargo attire may inform Navy and Marine uniform, kind of surprised there wasn't a swiss army knife as well, a survivalist swiss army knife would include the basic tools and likely a fire starter.
Many survivalists have military background, however why this one was sent we won't know until later, the mag with 3 rounds remaining speaks of someone who reloaded when they had a chance to breathe, and someone with experience, if you are being chased, or under fire, you don't wait till you're out, unless you have cover, you reload when think you have cover and enough distance,
Wonderful
It is so nice to see you writing again about this universe.
You write with the same wonderful voice and cadence as before.
It is wonderful to return to a story line of medieval world as yet not effective by the digital knowledge brought back by Garia in her second incarnation.
I hope this narrative also extends for over 100 episodes. I can't wait to find out what the special purpose is of the
new traveler from earth.

Dangerous Earth Tech Found!
In SEE 119, Garia showed Parrel & Korfen two (2) Earth Pistols found in Morlan's Lab. One of the pistols (the more "modern" one) was a six (6) shot revolver that used "shells"!
There were only two (2) expended brass casings. Because Garia didn't think they would be able to make shells at this time, Palarand concentrated on producing single shot sniper rifles & single shot personal pistols using paper SHOTGUN type Cartridges.
In this chapter, when Maralyn was handed the magazine and three (3) [intact (i.e. unexpended)] shells he said:
"Without the gun itself this is of little value."
I disagree! With three (3) unexpended shells and knowledge of the six (6) shot revolver found in Morlan's Lab, there will soon be the possibility of deploying multi-shot rifles & pistols. I would consider this a very dangerous increase in the lethality of firearms!
**********
As for doing another search for additional items brought by the "girl", the ship will have to move to the island where the girl was found...
I think
That Penny mentioned that they have a ship's boat or pram? If so then they can use that to take a small search party back to the island. Also agree with you. With revolver, especially one which was chambered to take brass, and now examples of unexpended brass they just got a very big boost in weapons tech. One wonders what sort of knowledge their newest transferee has!
Revolver load rifles have a
Revolver load rifles have a major problem (which lead to them being hardly ever used) if the stored rounds missfire and go off, you lose a hand, they also need to develop what we think of as "Gunpowder" as what they have is thought of as "Black powder" and will corrode the weapons if care isn't taken, they need the primer too, machining is getting better so in a few years something less cumbersome than threaded lever action is possible, but there's a lot that has to happen before multi shot weapons are feasible
Revolver Rifle
Revolving rifles are no more prone to blow up than a revolving pistol.
Early cap and ball revolvers could if loaded improperly have a “Flashover” causing more than one chamber to fire at a time, but that is extremely uncommon and doesn’t happen at all if loaded properly.
The real problem with revolving rifles has more to do with the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. There is always a small gap there, even in modern weapons with tight tolerances, this means a small amount of gas escapes around the gap when the weapon is fired, a minor issue when a revolver is fired at arms length, when fired next to ones face, as must happen in a revolving rifle the escaping gas is at a minimum extremely unpleasant or down right dangerous in weapons with loose machining tolerances.
Ahh ok still for rifles the
Ahh ok still for rifles the better firerate improvement choice would be bolt action manual, until they have the machining capability for magazine fed, they still need the primer and to improve their propellant charge as not to produce as much smoke and the corrosive soot that comes with it before they think about faster firing weapons
In gunpowder
Are you referring to the nitro glycerin based progressive powders that are out there today?
On black powder. Even the black powder substitutes have a corrosive properties.
Munitions (small arms);
Typically you have a cartridge that is assembled from components and sub assemblies.
The casing is a component, it requires it’s own production line.
The powder is a component it is also made on its own production line.
The projectile or bullet if you like, is a sub assembly usually it’s a jacket with a lead or some other material that is inserted into it or if it is cast lead it is a lead alloy that has to be lubricated. And each a type of projectile and components require their own production line.
Then you have the primer that is a subassembly, you have to produce cups, the propellant, the anvil and the paper on separate production lines and then assemble them on another production line.
Finally you have the cartridge assembly line where you put all those components and subassemblies together. all of these production lines and assembly lines require specialized tools and if it’s not automated then you don’t produce so many.
Penny (via Garia) rightly pointed out that firearms without ammo are merely curious and paperweights.
On primers. Some primers are corrosive and the newest formulations that are currently being made are not corrosive.
A repeating pistol
A repeating pistol, which was developed before a truly effective repeating rifle is still quite a step forward. Just the chemical composition that they should be able to determine will help on the issue of pushing their manufacturing forward. Anyway, what I'm saying is that to discount what they can learn from those shells is to short sell what Garia has started. So this gives them a better means of getting to a repeating pistol which is a thing which can make a great difference in a pinch.
What was recovered
What was recovered and handed to Maralin was a box magazine with three rounds in it most likely these were not rimmed cartridges.
Earlier what Garia handled what’s the revolver with two or three spent rimmed (assumed) cartridges.
The box magazine and the pistol cartridges or rimless cartridges are a represent huge advancement for increased rate fire and quick reloading in combat conditions. Especially with some added comentary from Maralin and Newbie.
Reproducing something like
Reproducing something like them will be a challenge with the strained manufacturing capacity, with the gun assembly even without an actual sample, should be engineer-able, the 'Newbie' undoubtedly would know how to take apart and reassemble the weapon, as that is a basic part of the training for them, with improved recall, she should be able to provide a high level of detail, might end up being more useful at least initially for up scaled naval weapons and artillery pieces.
Powder
mostly less smoke, yes they are still corrosive but they need to get to the point where you can fire multiple times without clogging or destroying the barrel.
Primers
Primers were the most corrosive. Then there were some steel alloys formulated to be resistant to the corrosive ammo.
They still need to develop
They still need to develop the metallurgy, and the explosives, even if they are mostly there on a lot of the machining which they might not be. When dealing with controlled high energy combustion, in any environment metallurgy and machining are often your two biggest limiting factors, good examples of this are in the areospace industry with rocket engines.
I am SO enjoying this extension
Y'all have created a world of the finest kind.
And yet ...
I find that I am disliking intensely Milord Kalmenar. And that, I must freely declare, is creating a little resentment within me.
And that resentment is founded upon the fact that this dislikeable Lord's behaviour sticks in my craw, and yet y'all told us that he comes highly recommended by Robanar and Gilbanar.
Why would either of these otherwise irreproachable gentlemen (nobles) have even given the man credence?
This seems to me to be an anomaly.
But y'all have done such a great job, and not forgetting Julia and Di, that I have no doubts y'all shall declare everything soonest.
Yours most gratefully,
Savannah
I'd say
That lord Kalmanar has not been tested against anything truly challenging. He's a diplomat who probably did well at carrying out fairly straight forward trade negotiations (I. E. how long a patent would be honored etc) but dealing with something outside of his range of knowledge, that seems to fly in the face of the great convocation which is a different sort of religion, but still requires a certain amount of faith. For in the face of contrary evidence he maintains his stolid insistence that the world he knows has not changed, even thought he knows how much Garia has already changed the world, and that Yod was ready to send an expeditionary force into Palarand's capitol city in essence in order to gain control over her. Luckily for her she was a bit more of a warlike bent than they expected a girl to be! Imagine if the PTB (GMDBs) had transferred a person who was a bit older from a combat zone? A soldier with a couple of blackbelts to her name and a firm knowledge of military tactics and maybe even weapons manufacture. Say an armorer from some forward deployed Marine unit? Anyway, that is off the point of lord stuck in the mud! He does make me resent him, but have met his like in RL too. Very good until presented with a situation that calls for either decision making or imagination or courage and then they want to play snail!
Prime Example
Kalmanar is one of those that, being skilled and knowledgeable in one area, assumes they are experts in all areas, even though they may not have any training or experience in that area. Perhaps a swinging boom might knock him in the water and nobody notices. "Oh, terribly sorry, we seem to have lost your diplomat. We sailed through a very rough patch and it wasn't until later we noticed he was gone."

Irreproachable Gentlemen
Perhaps they hoped that a large dose of reality might shock some sense into him, and who better to provide it than Eriana! I believe it has been previously discussed that she does not suffer fools gladly. They could not foresee how circumstances would change.

More advanced knowledge dropped on Anmar?
That diplomat, who's a pain in the ass, must be from Missouri, the show me State. Imaginenation was absent at birth.
What is said about the girl seems consistent with how others were found. Wonder what knowledge this girl brings with her?
Others have feelings too.
One Point...
...that none of the comments so far appear to have mentioned: this woman is the first of the new arrivals to reach Anmar at a time and place where there's someone among the discoverers who can recognize them as being from Earth, and who knows how things normally proceed from that point: sleep, then several days of amnesia followed by nearly full recovery. (Plus language recognition -- she'll probably understand both Norse and Valleyspeak when she hears them -- and, it seems, better retention of things she'd barely known on Earth.) Obviously it'll still be a rough initial ride for her having changed both sex and location, but things ought to proceed more smoothly than it did for the others.
