that's fantastic.
The last one to know
Brava!!! That was wonderful.
The search began in the "seedy" part of town,
and while I figured he would discover his son was trans
I feared she was gonna be strung out + turning tricks to survive.
But [WARNING!!! TOTAL SPOILERS:] instead she was a stylishly dressed
real estate agent who was happily married with kids + with an ongoing
relationship with her mom; probably exactly what Bob would have
wanted for a daughter if he'd raised her as one.
I managed to get almost all the way through this sweet moving tale without crying,
but lost it at Bob's "I went searching for my son and found my beautiful daughter."
Maybe Pip underestimated her dad's capacity to accept her for who she was
Or more probably it took those four years of heartsick worrying for Bob
to reassess his priorities and just be grateful he'd found her at last.
Another great story Maryanne, economically + yet richly told.

People Do Change
Not Phillipa...she just finally expressed her true self, but Dad did.
He had already accepted that his son was "gay" and could live with that, except that he then found that it wasn't true and he had to take a further step to accommodate the reality that was forced upon him. He was human enough to take that step, which he clearly hadn't been four years before.
Hopes and dreams have to change too.
Heartwarming
This is a lovely story, full of compassion for Bob, despite his narrow world view. You have told the story so well that aI cared as much about him as I did about his lovely daughter Pip Thank you

"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."
Beautiful
How did I miss this story 6 years ago when it came out ?
Like all your writing it has emotion, real world connections, a twist you don't expect, and a beauty and heart warming narrative that leave you feeling better just from taking the time to read and inhabit that world for just a few minutes of your life.Getting acceptance and understanding from everyone in your family circle is never simple and it can be painful and take time ( or sometimes even not after time ) and this story reminds us that we must be strong and know we are beautiful people who deserve to live the life we have chosen and just hope those we love will accept that and respect our decision.
Thank you Maryanne for sharing these wonderful stories with us. We love you for them !!!
Hugs&Kudos!!
