I know some authors post on itch.io to sell drm free epubs or host their own websites. You're also supposed to be able to publish the book on Amazon drm free if you look for the setting but that still doesn't really work for reading on the Kobo. I really wish that there was something like Amazon's marketplace for leaving reviews and feedback when you get to the end and/or some way to share the notes you made as you were reading it. Oh well. Anyways, plus one to the request for Amazon alternative.
