Kindle publication
This is a comment NOT about the story itself but Kindle who now is required to be downloaded from the Microsoft App Store and requires an account which I refuse to do.
Sorry, but I will not purchase future stories off Kindle.

Apparently you do need an Amazon membership, even a free one will do, but you don't need to download a Kindle app from Microsoft App store. They push that if you're using Windows 11 but it isn't required. You can still just read Kindle ebooks in your Kindle library in your browser by going to read.amazon.com where you will see all your Kindle books.
We tried making digital books available through other platforms than Kindle but sales dropped TREMENDOUSLY (like by about 50%). We lost a lot of revenue by not using Kindle as our sole digital distributor, even though people had asked us to do that. It just wasn't economically sensible.
