Would have turned 12 next April
Not eating, barely drinking. hiding at times
No obvious tumors external or in a brief ultrasound but dehydrated, losing weight, lethargic, probable digestive tract cancer, terrible kidney values, slightly low temp and elevated white count, some incontinence, mildly running eye and nose
They gave her saline under her skin, an antibiotic and a transdermal ointment (have to put on with a gloved finger in her ear) to boost her apatite
Purred as the vet examined her
Vet agreed she is near the end
Giving us at last few days to coddle her and say goodbye
My sister is off work that day so we both can be there

Cancer
I had to put my cat Boo down in April due to lung cancer. Aside from what her oncologist said at her final examination, as soon as I saw her appetite had disappeared I knew she was close to the end. I put her down within a week or so after she started losing appetite. She was only 10 and a half and I am still mourning her.
I so understand your loss. Please give Gracie a pet for me and I hope you find comfort in doing what is necessary to end her suffering.
Finally, I had Boo cremated so she is in a little box at home.
I am so, so sorry hon.
I feel the hurt with you
I said good bye to my last dog (at one time we had 4) three years ago. Bruce was a sweet dog, if a little exasperating at times. But just wasn’t getting around well any more. And he was also developing cancer.
I made an appointment with the vet clinic my daughter worked at. The staff were very supportive and friendly and gave plenty of time just to be with him until it was time to say goodbye.

I am so sorry
I remember well having to put down our dog, one of the hardest things I've ever done.
sending huggles to keep you company through this.
So very sorry to hear this..
Any pet owner (or more accurately pet servant) knows the pain that you must be in at the moment. We have all been there, and will be again.
Your comment that poor Gracie purred as the vet examined her broke me, I'm afraid. Too many memories of similar situations.
Enjoy your last few cuddles with her, so that she knows that she is loved even to the end. Remember the lively and vital kitten that she was.
Hugs

"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."

My first reaction was a profanity.
Given your cat's situation, I can't judge. I'm so sorry. I wonder if the assessment may change if she regains her appetite.

That's why we are giving her until next Tuesday
She has improved some, but I doubt it will be enough for her
She is eating and drinking better
She did urinate and pass stool, but it was much darker, thinner and softer than normal
And some was outside the box like it stuck to her fur or was uncontrolled
We will see but I am not hopeful
Thanks to everyone for their kind words

It's always a very hard decision
I felt afterwards that I might have made it too soon with one dog, so when the time came for the next one fifteen years later I know I left it too late. If you love them and do the best you can, it has to be enough.
It’s always hard
Fur babies are called that for a reason
That always sucks
I am comfortable making the decision if I need to. I don't believe in letting them suffer for my comfort. I was in the room for one cat, and I can't do that again, being in the room..
My 12 year old has a bit of a bald patch on her underside. She lets me touch it, press on it. It feels downy and I can see the fur seems to be growing back in. Everything else it normal.
It's always something or I'm paranoid about my fur babies :)
We share souls with every pet we love
I hope Gracie keeps getting better, and your time with her continues. We’ve lost so many dogs since we began bringing them into our family to become part of it. The connections we form never really end. Know that you’re not alone, John.
Much love,
Randa
Sad when the end comes
We recently said goodbye to Curious George after 17 years. We knew it was coming but it still hurts when it finally happens. Best wishes from a fellow cat lover. Keep your memories and cherish the time you shared.
