I hoped Henry
was smarter than that.
sigh, so Hiram is a lech
too bad ...
Oh Pooh!
As mentioned before Hiram is a bloody letch which was a surprise and Henry is just plain stupid which was also a surprise.
No bit of steel and leather is worth a life either of Henry or the fire fighter who may have to rescue him!
As usual a mini cliff hanger which I come to expect but I'm not too annoyed as Henry brought things on himself! I think I'm
feeling quite hard today as my usual caring attitude has deserted me.

Agree and yet not
As much as I agree, that no inanimate object ever should have someone risk her/his life for it, I can see it in keeping with the character created. Henry has made his job the purpose of his life and that is better than some other he could have chosen.
Having been a paramedic myself in my youth I know, that firefighters take their job seriously and do it in the knowlege that they have to risk their lives time and again due to human folly. Yet that is what they chose.
Yes Hiram's behaviour, even though it can be attributed to male hybris and corruption by power, is unforgivable, it puts Harriet in an awkward position, whether she likes it or not. May be things like that should be subject to a clause in the contract, causing immediate termination with a high punitive payment to the artist on top. I hope her agent gets told this.

I don't know
I have owned at least two cars i might take that sort of risk for. {Two Austin-Healey Sprites, a '63 and a '69}
And there are at least three cars i'd LOVE to own that i WOULD.
Topical behaviour
Bronwen,
Hirams behavious was very dissappointing. I hope you didnt add that part because its topical at the moment. Yes I know it happens in the film and possibly stage industry but your writing is good enough not to need such an obvious stereotype. However, if you are using it to develop the story further I look forward to a conclusion.

Obvious stereotype
Even if it is an obvious stereotype, I hope that Harriet's clever reaction is going to help her relationship with Magnolia. It should raise her another couple of notches in her esteem for sure.
Also Harriet's story is getting a little closer to the reality as is, which I really like. The two musical teeenagers are a nice addition, too.
I love this story,
Monique.

Harvey Who?
Given the current spate of male indiscretions in filmdom and theatre I am not surprised that Harriet would be a subject of such an attempt. She is,after all, a very desirable conquest. Magnolia's apparent acquiescence indicates that this was not Hiram's first adventure. Harriet handled the situation very well.
Henry going to rescue his pride and joy is all too believable, if not entirely sensible.
Blow the whistle
Pack up and leave and say why.
It is her word against his, of course. And the tabloids will be excited.
But IMO this is what she should do nonetheless.
"Letting down" others? So what? Let them complain to Hiram.
Hold on, everyone.
Now I do not wish to condone in any way Hiram's behaviour - in fact I abhor that kind of thing in all its forms.
However, I beg of you all to remember that this is set back in 2003, not now - were today's social mores and norms even remotely about back then? I suggest strongly that they were not.
Harriet is probably a little scared of involving the press, after all, she has a big secret that she wishes will remain secret. She is in a foreign country, does not know the norms to be applied and is alone.
I would suggest that she does indeed contact her agent and ask his advice.
As for Henry dashing in for Annabel, then I find that perfectly understandable, even if his reaction seems just a little late somehow. Nevertheless, I venture to suggest that he would have weighed the situation up first. If the fire was raging uncontrolled, then I bet he wouldn't have gone in. I feel that the fire is established but that he assessed the risks and decided that he could do it. I do so hope this was a move he considered first ...
Thanks again, Bron, for another fascinating episode.

There was ...
...a "casting couch" joke at Disney's California Adventure for years.
In the movies
We would see Henry driving his pride and joy out of the garage just as a burning beam falls down, narrowly missing him.
Heh.
May i borrow your crystal ball for the five o clock at the track tomorrow?
How does the song go? "Put your head on my shoulder", NOT!
If Hiram played the Coronet, I'd call him a horny old blowhard. I have a feeling Magnolia is aware of Hiram's peccadillos with young women. If this was 2017 or 2018, he'd be joining the crowd of disgraced female abusers. Wow, he's risking the loss of billions in a divorce.
Karen
I think that I have to agree with Karen.
Magnolia's shadow outside of the door would seem to be too convenient for her not to be aware of Hiram's 'activities'. I dare say that she might even be a party to such arrangements, which I hope I am wrong about.
Thank you for keeping the detour to the United States much more intriguing than I had been expecting. So many threads in such a wonderful weave!
Hugs,
Stacy
Introduced by Harriet Stow
Dropping extras on Harriet's head, which were not previously discussed, could have made a good situation bad had she not have been so gracious a person. And wanting back found music during her performance can only enhance the overall effect.
Perhaps the siblings will get a boost from their performance with Harriet, the Harriet Stow. And perhaps someone in the audience will be as impressed with the siblings as Harriet.
Hmm...Hiram going into Harriet's room was not good either for his marriage or Harriet being the resident artist. It was also not good should Harriet have passed the word around about Hiram's habit of unwanted nocturnal visits. Had she done that Hiram's theatrical career would be over. Hopefully they both can continue to work together without affecting the play and all those involved.
Others have feelings too.
