I was just telling someone that we totally need a transkids forum somewhere, y'know? Somewhere safe to be ourselves and talk about things that would get our tails kicked if we even THOUGHT them at school.

I'd be willing to host such a thing but policing a site especially aimed at underage readers on the web would be a large job I'm not sure I have the time or inclination to tackle.

I don't know nearly enough about geeky things to be helping out. Aunty Edeyn says I'll be a "good little geek grrl" one day, but I'm not sure I want to!
It's just that it strikes me as kind of sad that there's not anywhere transkids can talk about our frustrations and fears and stuff without being scared that the info will be used against us somehow or that the person on the other end of the screen is out to get us.
My therapist introduced me to her sister a couple of weeks ago, and her sister is not only a therapist based out of KC where I'll be for the summer, but she's a transgirl, too. She said she thinks she's the youngest "out" transgirl in KC, and she's almost 30.

There is a chat site for transkids up to 18, or there used to be. It's a Yahoo group based in New Jersey and is called something like "NJTransKidsNet". I am told they have very strict monitoring and are very security conscious which such a site would need as there are certain people who would be delighted to gain access to our children for their nefarious purposes. I am told that a lady called Jenn Burleton knows something about it, but I was not given an email for her. She is post-op TS and is involved with campaigning for Transkids.

Aunty Jen or the woman responsible for the Antijen lists. Great lady. Absolute Mama Bear if ANY of "her" kids are hurt emotionally, physically, psychologically... in ANY way. I wouldn't have survived high school and college without killing myself if not for her.
The idea is good, but the execution
would be hard.
I mean, I like the idea of a safe spot. Wish there'd been such a place when I was going through some things. But there are all kinds of logistics issues.
How do you verify that the members-to-be are who and what they say they are? I think the best way to do something like this would be to get some of the sympathetic parents to be the mods.
It would have to be a boot-first, question-later setup for dealing with issues, too.
Teenagers tend to end up neck-deep in drama (sorry, Roo, but it's TRUE!), so there'd have to be a way to sort through that, as well.
If it can exist in a workable format, I'm for it. I'd donate time to helping out on it... but then compared to those that would be frequenting it, I'm an old lady.
This is reminiscent of the idea behind the old Antijen lists. Maybe a forum setup with one responsible adult running the show. It would require an app to join by both the kid wanting in, and a parent -- or in the cases where the 'rents don't know yet, an adult that's watching out for the kid's best interest (a Sponsor of sorts). Something would have to be setup for kids that are needing such a place but have NO ONE. Those would be the ones that needed it most, I'd think...

But I had the impression that the U.K.'s Mermaids site had something of the sort.
Also, if I remember correctly, on the previous BigCloset site, TG Sine's never-completed story Tarja described an online teen and preteen TG group with an adult advisor, which Sine said was modeled after a real site she belonged to, though most or all of those people there apparently knew each other personally at the time. I don't know if that site (or AIM list) or those people are still around, but Sine was here on TopShelf a couple of months ago, I think, talking about continuing her story, so she may be available to ask...
