While reading another story, I remembered a story
Ballroom Dance Competition
Protagonist and Antagonist enter the competition, something to do with school
Protagonist's mother is teacher at the same school (teaching under maiden name) maybe sports teacher, can't remember if father is still in the picture or not
Protagonist's mother also runs a dance school
Antagonist only finds out that her Dance teacher and the Protagonists mother are one person until after the competition, and to add insult that to injury that the protagonist has been dancing since she was able to "Walk"

Is vague, I can't even be sure that the Competition was "Ballroom"
I am sure it was a dance competition
I also think that the protagonist was trying to keep under the radar, and the bravado of entering the competition put and end to that option as not only did the protagonist place high but also the competition made the local paper

for pointing out 'Dancing Queen' Erin, I'm about 1/4 of the way through reading it
I can say however that it isn't the story I was looking for, as the Protagonist and the Antagonist are mid to late teenagers, and after reading to where I have in 'Dancing Queen', I'm also now sure that the story I'm looking for is set in the US
I most also add that Louise Anne's name did ring bells, when I opened her AUTHOR PAGE I was reminded that she wrote several stories I really enjoyed including "How I became a girly girl", "A Summer of Changes" & "Suzanne’s cousin Clare" (Tissue warning)
