{Highlight to read} Lance Vanderbilt, a small for his age ten-year-old, made a deal with the owner of Gilbert Costumes in order to get one of the makeovers she does each year. Checking only the girls' costumes on the application, Lance accepted the surprise offer to work off the cost of the makeover. He didn’t realize at the time that this meant being a living, breathing mannequin walking around Gilbert Costumes' shop in different costumes. On this journey, Lance’s desire to dress and be a girl is revealed to a select few. He even gets to join the Girl Scouts as a girl named Lily. At a Halloween Party for the Girl Scouts in the area, Lily, in her makeover costume, wins first place, a $100 gift certificate to an online superstore. That meant very little, however, because what Lily really won was acceptance and friends as a girl named Lily.

Surprise Offer 2: is a direct continuation of the story about Lily and her ‘brother’ Lance. Can she find acceptance and her place in the world as Lily instead of Lance? Emotions run high as Lily’s new best friend and ‘adoptive’ family members move things forward at lightning speed. Can she handle it all? How will a surprise just before Thanksgiving change everything? Lily and Sammie are back, ready to take on the world with pigtails and dancing, in a way only ten-year-old little girls can do.
