That Harriet is wonderful ! I
That Harriet is wonderful ! I'm always leery around stage pyrotechnics. I hope I'm just an old lady.
Great chapter Bronwen.
Hugs,
Karen
You? Old? Like hell you are!
You? Old? Like hell you are! You have more energy than some teens I know! :)
I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime
And ... poof ... it all changes
Nice one, Bron
pantomime
those can be real fun - especially for kids !
pantomime
I had to look it up online.
I was not aware of the British version of pantomime and was totally surprised that there would be lines.
pan·to·mime
/'pan(t)əˌmīm/
noun
1. a dramatic entertainment, originating in Roman mime, in which performers express meaning through gestures accompanied by music.
2. BRITISH
a theatrical entertainment, mainly for children, that involves music, topical jokes, and slapstick comedy and is based on a fairy tale or nursery story, usually produced around Christmas.
Be kind to those who are unkind, tolerant toward those who treat you with intolerance, loving to those who withhold their love, and always smile through the pains of life.
I love this
I love the way the scene with the fairy godmother is described. It feels real.
Enchanting
This story has such a magical feel to it. Cinderella fits in so well.
Be kind to those who are unkind, tolerant toward those who treat you with intolerance, loving to those who withhold their love, and always smile through the pains of life.
Wonderful
This episode has a real feel good factor about it - and the pantomime really helps, not sure about the whiz bang thingy but I hope everything turns out well for them.
Is Reggie and the harlot living in Bridport? because if they live in Blackpool this is some trek unless they are visiting Reggie's parents of course.
Thanks for all your hard work and early posting.

The sort of old-fashioned "special effects" you describe...
...can be absolutely brilliant if thought out well and well-presented.
Some of the best are in Cocteau's 1946 Beauty and the Beast. Granted, Cocteau had the advantage of being able to intercut two shots (as the Beast carries the unconscious Beauty into her chamber and her peasant dress changes to a fantastic gown) or run film backward (as when Beauty magically materialises in her father's home, or her father walks down the hallway with the candelabra that light as he passes), but the transformation of the beautiful necklace to the garland of noxious herbs as it falls was done in a single shot with no camera trickery, and the shot of Beauty magically floating down the hallway doesn't, either.
{And it is a brilliant film of the REAL B&B story, unlike the Disney; it is so good that when Shelly Duvall's "Faerie Tale Theatre" in the 1980s did "Beauty and the Beast", they basically did a 60-minute version of Cocteau's 90-minute film in colour, duplicating the makeups, costumes and staging just about shot for shot. I cannot recommend too highly that you click the above link and read my full review ... and that, if you HAVEN'T seen this masterpiece, you do so at your earliest convenience.}
What could possibly go wrong?
I mean there's Harriet standing next to a big firework wearing a long dress and waving a 'magic' wand. Then there's dress rehearsal tradition that if they go wrong the show is bound to be faultless. Or am just a natural pessimist? :) And I forgot about Reggie and Sophie's presence in Brid. It's going to be a great Christmas :)
thanks Bronwen. Always a treat.

She Really Is A Fairy Godmother
Harriet is generous to a fault for her old comrades at the Apollo. She hasn't forgotten how they helped her to get her start.
I remember going to the pantomimes as a child and taking my son in turn. They are great fun and not only for kids. Some of them can be quite bawdy in places....music hall type humour always gets a laugh from the adults in the audience.
I do hope nothing is going to go wrong.
A bit of fun
Harriet was sweet stepping in at the last minute to help David. David knew she is the type of person who likes to help when necessary, so that was a weight off his shoulders.
Reggie, still with the liar of a wife. Wonder if she's figured out that Reggie can't get her pregnant? Wonder what her parents will do if/when they learn the whole truth. A possible annulment? Then money or the law? Reggie needs to get back with Harriet.
Others have feelings too.
