Referee
She clearly sucks at her job since the soul destroying thing didn’t get called out. I think the lack of the a second companion will hurt her unless she picks up a champion as a companion.

The rules
Killing each other outside of the competition is not against the rules, and as Maelyne pointed out already, permanantly taking out a champion by destroying their souls is a loophole in the rules.
The waking world is but a dream.
Matt is clearly going to be
Matt is clearly going to be Companion 2. Jeri gets two companions and Matt and Teri and a brother/sister pair, so it's a perfect fit storywise, even before you look at what Companion 2 is. It gives the person extra agilty and the ability to stealth; a rogue. Matt played a rogue in the MMO. It's tailor made for him.
Wonder what kind of treasure......
The glowing sphere will turn out to be?
This has been an interesting if unusual story, and the short wait between chapters makes it easy to read too.
Looking forward to more.

Dum Vivimus, Vivamus
boy, just surviving this is gonna be tough
she needs "player's handbook" or something ...
"the shrew"
I don't think I have ever seen a spoonerism typo before. I wonder if it was deliberate?
What about....
That sphere? Is she taking it with her?
Refereeing this shindig
So there is only one ref so how does he keep track of so many folks at once?
I am surprised there is no help menu or faq in the system she is interacting with if the whole game analogy holds up.
With the altercation being
With the altercation being done inside a warehouse away from all the other champions and their assistants; how does the referee know what is going on with each team? Are they being viewed on a screen or ???? Seems rather a disadvantage to not know all the rules of "the game", not just what has been given at the start of a game. All these others seem to be operating on a different level because they have been around longer. Just my way of thinking about it.
I'm wondering the green sphere gives extra "goodies" or points to the holder on it as needed?
Second companion needed
Jeri just learned why two companions should be acquired. While they were able to defeat the perverted trio, if they meet up with real fighters they may be in big trouble.
Nadine and Robe are fighters who will give Jeri and Teri problems unless they get a second companion.
Others have feelings too.
Two casts of shield companion?
Just noticed that Heather cast the shield companion spell twice in a short space of time. In her practice, she couldn't do that; the spell used up more than half her mana. Clearly the spell costs less. This could either be because leveling up the spell reduced the mana cost, or because casting it on a person, rather than an area, costs less. It would be interesting to know which it was.
Different spell
This is actually the first time we've seen Jeri invoke this spell. In the practice session she was trying another spell that protected herself, not her companion.
We previously saw the protect companion spell in chapter two, where it, unfortunately, failed to protect Heather's companion from a scythe blow to the head.
Ah, my apologies.
I'm sorry, I was wrong. I got Maelyne's shield and protect companion confused. My apologies.
Wondering about that sphere
Who says that the pillars being looked for are actually big and rectangular or circular. Doesn't depend upon who is defining the word pillar at the moment.
I would not be surprised to find out that they were the first to actually find one of the subjects of the contest.
As always, this is another great story.
I hope that the 2 girls
Can clame a piller for them selves. Try is the offensive part of the team & heater the defence but she's so use to be on offence that she doesn't have it anymore.
Love Samantha Renée Heart.
What happened
Did they grab the sphere? What benefit did it give?
Cheers
