Dear Folks,
About two weeks ago, I swung a five-gallon bucket of water while watering my buckets of flowering plants. Whatever I did hurt my back, mainly the vertebrae. So after X-ray, Cat, and MRI, my crazy pain is related to disk number four. It's improving.
The point I have learned about mobility is heartening. I've never studied our floor so carefully. I've never thought much about curbs or steps. My appreciation for people who are in chairs or who depend on canes or walkers has grown.
I am getting better and starting therapy in November. But now that I've walked in the shoes of a disabled person, my eyes have been opened.
Just saying.

That is a lot of water mass btw, like 20 to 30 pounds of water creating torque on your back.
I damaged my back 40+ years ago.
I caught a patient who nose dived in front of me, I caught her and damaged my L- 4-5, it's given me trouble ever since including loss of sensation in my lower legs and some loss of strength. If you add that to two strokes, and diabetes (type 2), some damage to my thoracic spine from childhood illness and at least two whiplash injuries, my back is wrecked, and you may see me walking with a stick. I still get about but am rather glad I can still drive a car.

I pulled a muscle in my lower right back right at the waistline. Soft tissue damage is a bummer because it takes so long to heal. I thought it was healed and was acting as if it was. I got into the car and dropped something that landed just in front of the passenger seat within easy reach,
I leaned over to retrieve it and it felt like somebody stabbed me in that very muscle. I was back to square one in the healing process. I started wearing a back brace; it helped for a while and when I though it was on the mend I took it off.
Then I had some minor handyman work to do around the house that required me to bend slightly several times. Back to square one and the back brace. I've currently got it under control, only a slight soreness. If I'm going to do anything that requires bending over more than one, I better put on the back brace or I'll be paying for the omission for the next two weeks.
I've lost all hope that it will ever be otherwise.
Hugs
Patricia
