CAUTION: DEATH
https://www.translegalclinic.com/justice-for-joelle
As part of the UK's fight to be even more transphobic than the USA, our National Health Service has introduced a 'biological sex' rule. It has just claimed its first life.
Joelle was stricken with an aggressive lymphoma, and rushed to hospital, where she was placed on a cancer ward. Staff then discovered she was trans, so she was moved to the far side of the hospital, where there was a free side room. Her cancer meds could not be started unless she was on a specialist ward. Neither could her pain meds.
Her family begged the hospital to put her on a cancer ward, it didn't matter which sex. This was refused, and after 16 days, without pain relief, Joelle died.
She was 27.
Just before that, the Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi complained that she had been forced to stay with her mother in the Emergency ward at hospital because of a trans person (or rather, someone she thought was trans) being there. On a MIXED SEX ward.
I am beyond anger here and deep into grief.

I assume
I assume there’s no liability for the hospital or any of it’s personnel, right? No accountability?
Grrrrrrrr!

Some years back……..
I was working with a company based out of Pennsylvania. The company’s CEO spent a considerable amount of energy trying to convince me to permanently relocate to York, PA, and couldn’t understand why I refused to do so. They apparently found it annoying to deal with paying me while I maintained my permanent residence in New York State.
I finally sat down with him and his VP of Human Resources and explained that as a transgender woman, New York State guaranteed me many rights which the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania did not; simple things like guaranteeing that my health insurance provider had to cover gender affirming care, and that medical providers had to treat me as a woman. Pennsylvania on the other hand allowed medical professionals to refuse to treat me. If I had been injured in a car accident while in Pennsylvania, the emergency room personnel could legally refuse to treat me due to religious reasons.
So much for the Hypocratic Oath! Apparently some places truly do feel free to treat us as less than human.

We could all see this coming
I am utterly appalled, but also totally unsurprised by this. I really thought we were better than this, but that Supreme Court ruling has put us back 40 years.
I wonder if it is possible to force the Government / NHS to pay for us to have Private Medical treatment as the NHS is no longer capable / willing to treat us safely? There are mechanisms for NHS to fund private treatment when the NHS cannot meet the need, and I think there is a case to be made here.

It turns out the death was two years ago, but is only now being publicised. It was, of course, ignored by all MSM. The link is to the legal action being taken.
What is relevant is that when it happened, the NHS did not have a set policy, so each Trust (managerial unit; mine is Surrey and Sussex Health) ran their own policy. SASH until the new rules was inclusive. The policy being run in Joelle's Trust was the same as has now been made mandatory nationally.
In parallel, the govt is now issuing guidelines for all Forces personnel and Civil Servants requiring use of 'biological sex spaces'. Mumsnet is gloating, as well as claiming that the absence allowances for trans healthcare have been cancelled, which may be untrue.
Over on the other cesspit, TwiX, the replies to the death report can be summed up as "Yay! More of this please!"
