Well done.
Bonzi, it's in your best interest to take GOOD care of her with the canopener... Give her some Chicken Soup. I'm sure a smart feline, such as yourself, could figure out how to get her some help, and appear like you're lazing about at the same time.
BTW - very nice chapter. I liked the careful way the real investigation was performed. Bad cops need to be found, and removed. Thay ruin the reputation of the rest, that are generally pretty good or conscientious.
Thanks for posting (& thanks to Gabi... I hope she read Bonzi's note, and would consider more help...)
Annette
Bonzi ? Bah !
Yes Bonzi did his usual magnificent job at writing this episode in Kylie's life. He certainly put those bigoted and low brow simians their comeuppance.
BUT, I propose Gabi is the amazing one. I mean, how many humans knows how to translate Cat to English ? A unique skill in all probability. She can go from talk show to talk show, circus to circus. And then how about the intelligence services ? With messages transmitted in Felinese I suspect it would be unbreakable and Gabi would be the only one who can translate ! Since MI5 and MI6 ( maybe even the NSA and CIA in the states ) are already aware of this posting it is just a matter of time.

Bonzi Is Like His Mistress
He's just as devious and clever. He managed the investigation extremely well. I particularly liked the bit about the removal of the security cameras and tampering with the tapes. Lucky there was one tape they didn't get.
I think this surveillance system is something peculiarly British. It has a definite 1984ish feeling about it and even though it came through in this case the potential for manipulation was demonstrated. Brian could have literally been "framed"
OK, now you've played "nice" for a chapter, so you must have something devastating in store for Kylie in the near future. Is her nightmare prescient?

Security Camera...
... Are not just British. Store cameras are VERY important here in the States as well. The image quality isn't always all that great, and it's not unusual for them to be pointing just a little off where they're needed. (They also record in loops - so they over write - so they need to be pulled quickly...
Annette
Newer systems
The newer security camera systems save to a computer harddrive, and the image quality is amazing compared to the old video tape systems.

Yes, but...
The vast majority of "existing" cameras are the old loop ones... Unless there's an event that draws attention to the older technology, MOST US stores/malls maintain the older ones. New construction normally has the new equipment (unless someone's using old used equipment to cut corners - allowing them to be lowest bidder).
But, yes, I've seen some of the newer digital surveilance camera results.
Annette
Wasn't a criticism
Just an observation. A local chain of convenience stores has the new system, with an LCD display monitor showing the behind the checkout camera mounted over the clerk's head. Kind of a "we are watching you" warning. Amazing clarity.

The newer systems...
...are usually cheaper, and much cheaper to maintain, and are easier to install, and are more integrated with other systems (especially security systems). As a result, the only way that older systems come in as cheaper is if there is an under-the-table (often less-than-legal, though not necessarily illegal) agreement somewhere.

It was a camera store
wasn't it. Maybe they dabble in security camera's as well. :)
Image quality
I've been on Jury Service 3 times and, on one of them, surveillance camera evidence was used. Fortunately the pictures weren't particularly important or hotly disputed because the image quality was so poor that they could have been of just about anybody. This was a few years ago so perhaps they're improved now but I was glad I didn't have to decide if they were significant.
Tampering with tapes needs a great deal of skill if it's to be undetectable. The bent coppers in this story clearly weren't skilful enough, fortunately.
Not a bad story for a cat, I suppose :)

Fine Looking Feline
Bonzi! You're looking good. :)
This was another fine chapter. I'm glad everything worked out.
The bent copper scene surprise me. Thanks. I love surprises. It was cool how it worked out.
I wonder now if birth control pills don't have the same effect as pizza. Having both just before going to sleep seems to produce bad dreams. Kylie will just have to remember to take them in the morning - though we all know she shouldn't be taking them at all. Naughty girl. ;)
Thanks and please keep up the good work.

Kylie's parents shoud go for the jugular
Given the lengths which the two police men risked their careers to try and frame Brian, the language the inspector used in front of a superior officer, civilians and children and the assault the inspector made on a teen in that informal meeting, they have no respect for anyone who isn't *normal* and are willing to use any and all methods to blame them for their own kids prejudice rationalized violence.
I fear for the families safety unless the sergeant and the inspector are both sent to prison, preferably the general population. If they are lucky they won't be murdered in prison and will learn a different meaning to ‘being bent’, can you say prison bitch? Anyone willing to tamper with evidence in a fairly minor assault case involving teens most likely did it in adult cases. The local court system will have a heart attack once the word of this tampering gets out. Maybe the inspector and sergeant can meet some of the crooks they framed, what a happy reunion that will be.
Similarly, there need to be strong measures taken against the policemen’s sons. This is multi generational homophobia and needs to be severely punished or they will try to get even.
Jesse, John, you’re awfully vindictive today?
People in position of authority who abuse that trust are contemptible and should be shown little mercy.

One might almost...
feel sorry for the two policemen if they get sent to jail (where they belong)... ALMOST I said... How long they last in prison, depends on what kind they get sent to... Cops that end up in jail, have a VERY high accident rate. The question I have, is do they acually diserve this? Technically, they're are "paying" what they owe society for what they did - with their prison terms.
Getting suspended without pay - could well drive their families into homelessness... While they DO diserve major penalties, I'd prefer some kind of rehabilitation... Though, I dunno if it's likely to work here.
Annette
Rehab
It doesn't appear they considered their families when they subverted (or attempted to) the legal system. As a former LEO, I can say that actions like this deserve heavy punishment. I assume the police in the U.K. have to swear an oath to uphold the law. I won't say it doesn't happpen that an officer will look the other way at times, but trying to frame somebody else for their sons' ADW - nope, won't wash.
I don't think that rehab is much use for this kind of offender. Not only are both men set in their bigoted ways (in spite of what they likely have seen done to other defenseless GLBT people), they have infected the next generation.

Not Interior Surveillance
It was not the use of store cameras or interior security that I thought to be peculiarly British. I think these are common in most countries. It's the use of security cameras to monitor streets and plazas and other "outside" public areas that I'm not aware of in other places, but maybe I'm just ignorant.
I'm with John from Wotsisname on this one. Outright abuse of power by people in authority should be punished to the maximum. Twenty-odd years ago the state where I lived became a quasi-dictatorship because a religious bigot thought he had the right to do anything he wanted to and used the police as his instrument of "justice", thereby encouraging systematic corruption in the force. They had a system called "verballing" where they lied and colluded to obtain convictions. Honest cops were thrown out and even exiled.
All this was possible because our voting system was badly skewed so that many electorates had only a fraction of the number of voters that others had and, of course, those in power did not want to fix it. The situation only ended when some of the dictator's own ministers became so revolted by the excesses that they staged a palace rebellion.
In case you think I'm exaggerating the name of the dictator was Johannes Bjelke-Petersen (technically he was the Premier) and the state was Queensland in Australia. Several of his ministers and the Commissioner of Police were eventually jailed. He himself only escaped prison because one of his supporters subverted a jury verdict.
This happened in a "democracy" so never think it can't happen to you. The evil old @#$%& died only recently and to my utter disgust and horror was given a state funeral,
Joanne
Yeah, get the sodds
This last bit went uncharacteristically smoothly, but I love it any way. I wonder how many young people sort of take matters into their own hands? The idea of Antiandrogens and needing liver function monitoring makes me worry. It just seems illogical to ingest things that can threaten your innards.
Not being a medical person, I was taking illicitly gotten 2mg tablets for a year before I ever got a prescription. Little did I know that the evil poison Testosterone was still there to counteract the function of my beloved Estrogen. So, when they put me on the stuff to stop that, my gonies were gone very fast.
I am hoping that Kylie gets some progressive treatment.
Gwen
Oh, dear
Kylie taking estrogen-bearing birth control pills? Aaarg! she's way too young. . .
I hope the Doctors get her to stop before she winds up dwarfing herself. . . I guess that is a sign of how well the story is told, 'cause I care for Kylie enough to worry about her. . .
Well the Cameras that
we have installed for our security systems are HiDef wide angle and record to a tower removeable 3 terabyte Hard drives. Of Course there have been quite a few advances in the hardware. They feel bad for Kylie's nightmares. The amazing Ang and Bonzi making heir characters come to life.

Wrong move guys
Burden showed why his son was a git, given how dad and his partner in crime thought they could fake a tape to blame Kylie and Brian for the fight. And then daddy got stupid and tried to attack Brian. He really looked stupid when Brian put him on the floor, a kid not even close to his size and weight. Burden should have let what happens happen to his son and mate. Instead, his attempt to cover it up, and blame Kylie and Brian, and attacking Brian, he lost his job. Hopefully Burden Jr. won't try and get at Kylie or Brian because his dad tried to cheat the system. But given their attitudes, both will blame Kylie and Brian for getting Burden Sr. fired.
Maybe after going through the trouble together, the two will finally get along better.
Others have feelings too.
