Evil Twin?
Of course, he was Artemis at the time, but we did have that magician that Shade wanted to avoid, showing up in her dream as an evil version of herself. Did something like that happen here? In Alex's dream, he transferred temporarily into an Artemis body. Was it the wrong one, and if so did switching back infect Alex? If so, Shade doesn't seem to know -- and Shade did know last time, describing the dream invader as an entity not unlike himself.]
There's also the whole point about Shade turning Alex into a shadow, complete with tentacles like the ones Alex ran into way back, and the ones Shade's relatives showed when they chased Artemis down the mountain. I think if he could have done that to Artemis, he would have done it before, against the Knight to name one time. I'm wondering if for some reason he can only do that to Alex.
