Maude led her to the PMs’ office suite, where they had to wait a few minutes until another Minister came out and his voice called them in. He stood and shook Willows’ hand.

“Well done, Saturday. I’m told that your delivery of all those bare facts made them sound like a story, with a Q and A thrown in. Older members would never dare to step outside what was given to them.”

“I considered the sheet as a suggestion, sir. It seemed to go down well.”

“You do believe that my work is art, don’t you,” said Claude.

“Of course I do,” Blythe said. “And I only want to play a role in helping you to be that artist.”

And that is the title and essence of this story.

Note. After some encouragement I have extended the original story. I hope readers might enjoy the extra pages at the start.

A general sat behind a large desk. Behind him picture windows showed a drop of sixteen floors to a parade ground far below with marine recruits who looked little bigger than ants, being put through their paces by drill sergeants.

I wrote this story some time ago. Until now it was only available as an eBook from online retailers.

It was inspired by a very real protest in 2017. It was chronicled by instinctmagazine.com in their story titled: “Boys in Skirts Beat the Heat—and the System” and featured this photo.

She looked him up and down, and made sure that he could see what she was doing. He was the same height as she was, even in her heels, although they were not overly high. He had less skin exposed than she did, in a strapless top that showed off the body that many like her would have been ashamed of, but she could see that he was all muscle underneath.

Robi stood over the bed checking her semi-conscious patient’s pulse. She carefully watched the second tick off on her wristwatch as she counted heartbeats. Satisfied, her vital signs were close enough to normal, she jotted the information down on the victim’s chart. As she did, she quietly observed the small, still body on the bed hoping for signs she was regaining consciousness.
