I agree entirely with the not so smooth transitions. However, when writing in this style I generally rely on this to fit as many scenes and action in to the short story format as possible and whenever I think a scene will start losing its interest or ramble on a little I try to move on asap.
Payback
It would be an interesting follow-up to see what happens to the two people that caused Jim's problems in the first place. It was a quick paced story that many could follow.
