So Busy!
Julia, thank you for continuing Julina's story. I shed a tear when Julina met Merizel's group. I thought, 'That's right; Merizel's a countess now'.
Whew I got exhausted just reading her activiities
There is no way she can keep this up for weeks on end, she will go crazy.
Thank you for another episode of Eastend... erm Northend...? Oh never mind :)
The Green Ptuvil
I vote for "The Green Ptuvil"!
SOMEWHERE IN EINNLAND FIVE YEARS LATER:
"Father this is Julina my wife and the mother of your Grandson!"
"WELL DONE! Jerk"...
"Internal Ructions"
FYI "Internal Ructions" is a very serious female affliction that can trigger "Eye Twinkle" in an unsuspecting male.
Knives and forks?!
Only barbarians eat pizza using a knife and fork!
Though in this case, it says something about forks starting to become very pervasive.
But only ultra-barbarians
try stuffing a whole pizza into their mouths at one go. Surely, everyone has to have their pizza sliced into segments at the outset?
To do that, you'd need a knife (circular ones not available atm). To hold it still whilst cutting - probably best to use a fork, or another knife.
(By the way, pizzas come from Italy, and there a knife and fork is provided in every restaurant I have been into which serves pizza - and the clients use them too.)
Eatery
Quite an ambitious timetable for an eatery.
In many Artisan shops they have to stagger their lunches as certain activities need supervision or regular attention.
Ovens take time to heat up too. During use they cool and it takes longer to bake the pizza and so forth.
As much as the original timetable sounded nice it'll need heavy modification to work. LIKELY changes are opening for breakfast and closing mid afternoon, using a permanent building with some inside dining but mostly under roof with open sides. It should be at a Wender stop.
Re: Eatery
Wouldn't the first Pizza joint in Anmar become the most popular Wender stop?
wender stop
Julina can designate Wender stops if, she chooses to do so. However, a popular Wender stop would be the Market shed-- more people.
Not entirely sure which planet you are on!
Umm ... I think y'all might have missed something, or maybe more somethings as Julina might say.
As regards this comment, the Wenders start every morning from the Shuttle Shed which is in, or close by to, the Market Place.
In the town.
The proposed pizzeria is surely three or four marks away across the other side of the valley, over by where the workers toil away, referred to as the Artisans' Area (I like the way Julia gets the apostrohes right).
As regards some of your other comments, then I would say one of the many things I have learnt from reading this tale is that not every idea works perfectly every time. They make mistakes; so, for instance, and referring to another of your comments, if the pizzeria gets going, then the times at first allocated will have to be adjusted according to experience.
It's easy to apply twenty-first century Earth thinking, but Julia has managed to conjure up a scenario that is still finding its way. These are totally new things they are getting into, you know? They WILL make mistakes. And that's the sort of thing that makes this tale come alive for me.
I often see problems that they will encounter and nearly all of them Julia deals with in the next few chapters, so I tend to hold back on my commenting in case I should inadvertently create spoilers.
It surely ain't the best of worlds there so why don't y'all let them make mistakes and adjust, rather than telling us all publicly what we can already see for ourselves?
And maybe try to get the context right when you do?
Savannah
Venket
Even if the abusive sperm donor gets sent away and the town accepts her, her mother is crippled and she'd be the only source of income.
Heldra will need assistance raising her child, and (Venket's mother) going through what she did for her child's comfort does say something about her character, maybe the Palace would be a good place for them
There are a lot of complications for Venket
Venket needs a support group for want of another term but she has to take care of her mother. Her mother is not suited to living away from Blackstone but Venket may not get the support she should get from other t-folks in Blackstone as far as I know, but is available in Tranidor.
She needs that support group especially as she will run into puberty very soon and she needs to find somebody to give her an orchie as a minimum. To possibly become unpassable while being the sole breadwinner does not give her much leeway. Frankly, Julina needs to appeal to the steward for help otherwise the two could be in dire straits.
The other problem is Anmar
The other problem is Anmar doesn't have the anatomical knowledge or any anesthetic, no self respecting medical professional (besides dentists who impersonate Elvis) would put a child through that much pain unless its because of something immediately life threatening, they also don't know about hormones in any usable form, while Margra may have tried looking in to anesthetics since Garia mentioned them, the anatomy part will have to wait at least a year, Garia's gone for 9 months, figure in added time until the Palace healers (they would get the knowledge first) would be comfortable with surgery, and then a child would NOT be the one they would want to try anything the first time on, (probably one or more of the women in Tranidor).
Vanket's mother needs to live somewhere she can receive aid, and we don't know the details of her injuries, if she has full or partial use of her arms, then the Palace is EXACTLY where she needs to be, if I remember correctly, the tower has an elevator now, so she could demonstrate the wheel chair, or electric wheel chair, and Vanket herself needs a lot of custom clothing to aid in appearances, also it puts her in a decent position to spark social progress as she grows older
I don't see why the king/queen would invite her there
Let's be frank, for them to take in every destitute cripple would overwhelm the palace. My recommendation is for them to stick it out in Blackstone where it is likely she still has friends and a means of livelihood. Venket has Julina on her side and as we all know, she is becoming quite popular and powerful in town.
If they were to bring Merry into the circle (via Julina of course) there is no doubt she can get some kind of aid in Blackstone. Blackstone also is a wealthy town now so the poor will be taken care of.
She could help manage the
She could help manage the nursery, she has the character quality to let children find out who they are and help them to do so, Keren would invite her, they NEED someone for that job, they have multiple newlyweds living at the Palace, not counting the Royal couple, a pregnant guardswoman who's love fell in battle, and the number of said couples for whom either member isn't overloaded with responsibilities 85% of the time or more is the extreme minority, they need a full time babysitter, and that need will only become more prevalent, after all upon the Princess's return, you can be certain that they will "practice" making little prince's and princesses, until Garia misses her Call, and realizes that they did more than practice.
Merry isn't going to stay in Blackstone any more than the Prince is, and financial aid isn't what I was talking about, while a few long time residents may be supportive not all of them will be so tolerant
Yes and no
Like it or not, she needs to be able to keep up with them, physically. It all hinges on where she can get the most support. She is effectively a paraplegic at this point.
Well
Actually it depends on both short and long term help, if Venket isn't well received in the coming weeks, she and her mother will HAVE to move, at least for a while. Blackstone may be a comparatively progressive community, however lots of new people are coming in, with their own ideas on how to treat people. and while the ones in power in the community will make sure that social progress sticks, until they start to seem less radical, or the Blackstone social culture is well known outside of town at least, it might not be a safe place for Venket. For short term, Julina does have the resources and mind to have something like a simple wheelchair made, and put on an open EL, she could put a special commission for the wheelwright, the tricky part would be the casters unless they already have them and figuring out they need foot supports.
Even in best case scenario for staying in Blackstone, Blackstone doesn't have the workforce to provide Venket's mother with a decent quality of life, they are stretched thin.
