It seems the exhibition must
It seems the exhibition must be done sooner rather than later, and they must find a way to demonstrate the steam engine too, the Duke maybe welcoming the changes to come, but it is his sons who will oversee it in time.
it shouldnt be so surprising
it shouldnt be so surprising how they feel about talking about the war in Yod, they werent simply defeated, they were shattered.
The prodical sons have returned?
One is a womanizer and the other a brawler? Oh this is getting juicy. Unless I missed my guess with the eldest son. War brings out the true nature of a human being. Everyday could be their last so why pretend any longer? Some can rise to exceptional kindness and caring. others to the deepest depravity of mankind.

well the oldest doesnt seem
well the oldest doesnt seem to be like Jarwin, that is to say he recognizes when he is in error and is embarrassed by it. this issue seems to be during what we would think of as the "mop up" period, so the issue may inpart be bad assumptions on acceptable behavior in defeated lands, made worse because at the end the war against Yod effectively became a war of liberation, and he didnt respect the locals as victims,
A womaniser?
Mayhap his tastes lie in a differing direction and he misread a situation, making inappropriate advances that were not appreciated?
Or perhaps he is an exhibitionist and displayed his wares at a wrong time?
Or maybe he likes a little bondage, but chose a wrong 'partner'?
Or ...
So very many possibilities. I for one am not settling for his just being a womaniser.
well he didnt seem to blink
well he didnt seem to blink at the notion of Eriana fighting though IIRC from SEE some countries began employing women as runners and scouts so perhaps the idea isnt as much of a jump to him
return of the sons
this is interesting wrinkle
It will be interesting to see
It will be interesting to see what they think about the Federation being a more permanent extension of the Alliance, with many of the larger members and some countries that weren't involved in the war, as well as all the technology it brings. Likely they will end up being involved in figuring out where bridges that will eventually carry the rail will go, sure initially it will just be wagon traffic, but that will alleviate some of the bottle neck at the fairy crossings, put them at the front of the developments so they can learn and adapt. The younger one in particular can probably learn from Eriana as she learned from Garia in self control and centering the mind, The older one's issues seem like they maybe rooted in arrogance, but aren't so bad that he lacks shame, so he can be taught without lasting damage, perhaps the understanding that Joth is to be an important part of a greater whole, and the need for it to be so, will be enough, or at least go a long ways to it. Joth is about to get quite wealthy on the textile industry, selling clothes initially to Paraland, which will be fine as in addition to just needing more general work force available in many industries, the clock work (and other fine mechanical) industry in Paraland is going to need a lot of people with fine motor skills, and that is ignoring electrical stuff.
Bridges would be one of the more immediate practical benefits from the Jothan perspective of the Federation, a bridge that eases the bottlenecks of the Ferry crossings would be of general interest to the Federation as a whole,
sounds like the two of them
sounds like the two of them need lessons in discipline and self control, not to mention judgement and empathy.
They do need it but they aren
They do need it but they aren't professional soldiers, though they have had training, this is a problem native to putting nobility in command of armies, on the field, not to mention at least in the Valley, it might have become effectively the first war of liberation they have ever experienced, at least in relevant memory, first time a country has collapsed in on itself from war, unless they interacted much with the people in the front and the civilians they came across, there likely wouldn't be any point of reference to base off of, add arrogance of station to the mix...
They Sound Like Some Others
Who are currently in the news. They may have some growing up to do!
Did some rereading
And realized something troubling, Maralin just recently left for Paraland, we know he ends up there for Harvest Festival, but we dont know if he made it all the way back to Joth before joining with the Ducal party from Joth that was there in JoB, more importantly at least to VoV, is that he wont be there to involve himself with the exhibition and at least a smaller one for the Ducal household will be needed soon now that the sons arrived, to someone whom has never seen one in action describing the use and operation of a steam engine, without running it will be a challenge.
New tech
I am surprised that at least for some of it, like the steam engine, Palarand is not sending a field engineer to show the recipients how to work the thing, especially as it can blow up if damaged the wrong way.
Running the Steam Engine
This point has been made by others.
I have to admit that it was overlooked by me at the time, but there are some possible solutions for the omission.
Now all I have to do is come up with one...
Maralin would have been the perfect person to have received instruction on how to run the steam engine but unfortunately he's not around right now. Expect him back just before Eriana leaves Joth.
Thanks for reading. I know things are a bit slow right now but I will try to improve output as the weather gets better (and the jobs multiply!). A long gap between chapters not only makes reading the story disjointed but plays havoc with the author, too.

Dogs have owners; cats have staff. Grand-daughters have minions.
A thought on that
Hmm well the Tales of Faralmark might provide an answer, all 4 of Yussuf's ships arrive carrying Paralandi wares, and having had overtaken the Visund at some point, the other option is Hambran,
The twist
Okay, I have struggled with a concept and the brothers just might provide the solution.
We are reading, The Voyage of the Visund. Yet, the story has centered around Ursula. We know the Visund is going up the river soon, and Ursula is become a valued healer in Joth. It looks like she would be settling in for a long stay. The brothers might give her a reason to be on the Visund when it leaves port.

You know in some ways, following these various stories of Anmar, and thinking about them and the remarkable comments and discussions that follow them, is kind of like what it might be to actually explore a human inhabited planet.
Or am I being silly?

Shaking wrinkles out of the sheets
Was it really worth it for Wallesan to have gone to Palarand with all the damage in Joth to repair or rebuild? When he gets back to Joth, he's then busier than a one arm paper hanger, and seems to be coming and going.
Granted, working to create The Federation is important, as is learning of the new items and activities in Palarand. But work was backlogged while he was gone.
Will Ursula again have problems now that the sons have returned? Will they make a try for her where someone has to explain things with some force? What will they do since they were sent home for unacceptable behavior?
Others have feelings too.
