And had The Alan Parsons Project playing on random shuffle. A very good friend of mine introduced me to Alan Parsons during my freshman year of college, way back in 1978. I fell in love with the group - Alan Parsons, Eric Wolfson, Ian Bairnson, and all of the wonderful work they put out. The music of The Alan Parsons Project was the soundtrack of my life for decades - good times and bad. It brought me up when I needed it, and it was there to keep me company in some of the lowest points of my life.
This song was a favorite of mine during one of the low points. My spouse and I were having the same trouble that too many military families suffer from - too much time apart, supplemented with a healthy dose of worry on the part of my spouse as I spent more and more time in hot spots around Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. At one point, she wasn’t sure I would make it home - and I wasn’t sure what I would come home to at the end of my tour. During that time, the words of this song had real meaning to me. Luckily, we made it through all of the issues and celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary last year.
This song came up in the random shuffle this afternoon, and it reminded me of those times - and of how much my family meant to me then, and still means to me now.

The same old sun
That song always breaks me up.
Like you, APP provided a soundtrack to my adult life, since I turned 13 and my big sister discovered "Eye in the Sky" in her first year at Uni.
She has already said that she wants "Old and Wise" played at her funeral, apparently she is not alone in that.
"Eye in the Sky" was the first record I bought on CD, despite already having it on vinyl & cassette.
I can totally see why "Same old Sun" resonates.
And the same old sun will shine in the morning
The same bright stars will welcome me home
And the clouds will rise way over my head
I'll get through my life on my own
Thankfully you don't have to Dallas.
Thanks for reminding me how good Vulture Culture is. I'm off to play the whole album now. Let's talk about me for a minute.......

"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."
One of the most important songs……
For my spouse and I was The Eagle Will Rise Again.
I still remember the first time I sang it to her while we danced…….
And I
Could easily fall from grace
Then another would take my place
For the chance to behold your face
And the days
Of my life are but grains of sand
As they fall from your open hand
At the call of the wind's command
Many words are spoken when there's nothing to say
They fall upon the ears of those who don't know the way
To read between the lines
That lead between the lines
That lead me to you
All that I ask you
Is show me how to follow you and I'll obey
Teach me how to reach you, I can't find my own way
Let me see the light
Let me be the light
Were it not for The Alan Parsons Project, I might not have gotten married!

Another gorgeous song..
Eric Wolfson wrote some magnificent lyrics.
After a first listen to "Gaudi", I really wanted to see La Sacrada Familia., and planned a trip. We still haven't been!
