So for all you fans out there, May the 4th be with you!
Well the week hasn't concluded the way that i'd imagined back on Wednesday, not in a bad way, just different, starting with Thursdays ride. My original intention was to do a long ride to finish April off, instead it was a climb heavy, over 1k metres, 87km around the North East Somerset hills, taking in 16km of new to me lanes and Byways along the way.
Friday ended up being a trip out for an IKEA lunch and a spot of shopping with the intention of getting in a solid writing session on Saturday. But instead of writing i ended up doing a day trip to Brean Down, south of Weston super Mare, 6 buses, a 10km hike and two sore feet, quite the day. Why the trip i hear you ask, well i wanted to see the archaeology on the isthmus, an Iron Age hillfort, Roman temple, Napoleonic fort and the WW2 additions to that - more stuff than you can shake a stick at!
And so today, my first Hill Bun Day of 2026 (i missed the April edition), a tidy 78km but quite flat (618m) ride to join a couple of hundred other two wheel enthusiasts for cake and tea all for good causes. The wind was light, the sun showed its face and i got in some 'gravel' riding on the return leg, mind you some of the roads on the outward leg were worse! So there you go, a bit of a mix up, maybe this week will be more compliant to my plans?
It's Sunday of course and i've posted more May Queen which so many of you seem to be enjoying. This week its cards on the table, click here to have a read.
I will get some writing done this week and i will get some halfway decent length bike rides in too - weather permitting.
For now though, that's all, i'll be back on Mittwoch,
Tschuss,
Madeline Anafrid
