for young Madeline!
The grass has not, metaphorically speaking, been growing beneath my feet this week! It all started with a visit to the Dormouse woman down in Dorset on Thursday. Between here and there, there are no fast roads, its country lanes masquerading as A roads, up, down and twisty as hell, the 75 miles generally takes @ 2 hours or so depending on traffic, which means it's a long day of travelling and after building in time for Aunty B to recover from one direction, it can end up being an 11 hour day. Its quite tiring without actually 'doing' anything.
Thursday's trip pushed things back a day so Friday became ride day - 60 odd kilometres linking Bristol & Bath, meeting Aunty B in the latter for bacon between bread.
I had a long list of stuff to work through on Saturday, laundry, gardening, writing... I say gardening, first job was to weed the empty veg beds before planting a selection of legumes and carrots, yes i know i should've done this weeks ago but the weather really wasn't up to it in April. A bit of general tidying et voila, we should get some green stuff in a few weeks time.
Next on the list was writing, a solid afternoon was spent crafting a difficult chapter of the new Gaby book but i finished it eventually and it's now available on Patreon. It felt like i'd missed something, but no, for once i was ahead of the game.
And on to today. I set off a little earlier than usual to start what turned out to be, a 7 hour day on the bike. A long day but that wasn't down to the 102km or even the 1068m of up, rather it was the fact that 26km of it were new to me and most of that was 'not tarmac', everything from rutted field to green meadow, loose chippings to wet mud and pretty much all points in between. I hardly saw another soul for much of the day, these routes really are under used, i get they aren't to everyone's taste but seriously, why would you not? The only downsides today were a few nettle stings and a mudguard destroyed by a hidden log, coulda done without that but its not the end of the world.
Of course a Sunday ride has repercussions, Dinner was late and posting the new May Queen 'chapter' like wise but you can read that here.
I'll be back midweek with more musings,
Tschuss,
Madeline Anafrid
