I am a little nervous about going to the Valentine's day dinner and dance at my church tonight. I haven't been to anything like this since I began my transition, and I am not a social butterfly in any case, so I'm a little worried about how I'll do, even if most of the people there will know me.

I wish I knew enough about the situation and people involved to be able to offer any useful advice.

All I can do is hope that whatever you decide, it is the best path for you. And that you have a happy Valentines day.

Nervous???? You?? Goodness sakes my child . You have nothing to fear from those who know you .. Just be your kind cute self & you will probably have a wonderful time ; but if you dont then point me to the baddie & Papa will straighten them out.. Warm snuggles to you my Kitten... have fun

Thought before posting

It would be so easy to post a platitude, so I sat and thought for a while, and all I can offer is some of my own experience.

I spent a long while splitting my life between Steph and my former identity. Moment by moment, day by day, I forced myself to offer up myself to the rest of the world. It isn't easy to walk out in female mode when your neighbours have spent years seeing you as That Man With the Beard. In the end, there is no choice. I had to ride across London, for example, with hair, tits and beard shadow to see my shrink, so what else could be worse?

You are Dorothy, and they know her. You are (now) nobody else. You can attend the event for exactly as much time as you want, but go you must. You go as the woman they know, smile, chat and leave when you feel you have to.
