I saw my counselor today, and it was a good session.
She believes there may be a chance for me to get some volunteer experience working with the food bank which would possibly lead to a full time job working for them.
We'll have to see how things work out.

The experience would be good. A full-time job would be good. A strong recommendation from them would be good if they can't afford to hire you. :)

The main thing is that you keep on trying and sooner or later you'll be successful. Sometimes you have to work on a voluntary basis in order to get a paying job, but don't be used - there are some unscrupulous people out there who will bleed you dry and then say they can't hire you.
