so one of the few things my brother and sister-in-law have asked me to do around here is trim the grass in the summer.
But about a month ago, while I was using the electric trimmer, our neighbor swore through his window at me for apparently waking him up. since then, I've been terrified of trimming the lawn, and found all kinds of excuses not to do it.
The lawn now looks like crap, but I feel worse. sighs ….

if it is anytime between 6 am and 9pm you can make whatever noise you want and your neighboor can go to hell.
though to be honest with the weird weather we have this summer the grass is not growing much if at all just the weeds.
Knowing what I know of your family I would suggest cutting the grass late evening before it rains to give the grass a chance to heal itself. Never cut grass when it is sunny you kill the grass.

As someone who worked nights for many years I know that it can be very irritating at times that others think are perfectly acceptable. My neighbor mowed first thing in the morning, as soon as the grass was dry. Fortunately once I'm asleep I can sleep through anything so he just agreed to mow the other side of his triple lot first. That gave me an hour after I got home to get to sleep. The point of this is that if you learn when the neighbor works you can mow without any problems. Oh, if he curses at you give him the bird from me. It's uncalled for.

I was wondering what the problem was if you're using an electric trimmer. However, if you're referring to a string trimmer, I would recommend going with a nice, large echo 2 cycle gas powered. Echo is a very reliable gas trimmer (I sold them once upon a time, and worked on them as well).
Just make sure you buy a straight shaft, as they can go through much larger brush with a blade on them. Also, you can usually find an attachment for reaching up into trees with a chainsaw blade and limbing with the same power head. They sound very like a chainsaw when you do that.
Just make SURE you use 2 cycle oil in the gas. I've had to completely replace many engines because the person ran straight gas through it.

First off not usually called string trimmers here. Its weedeater. Second echo...yeah i dont have good experience with a company that refuses to make or supply replacement parts. I have an echo 550 chainsaw that has a bad mag/coil and there is NONE anywhere at all.

Sorry that you haven't had good luck with Echo. Husqvarna is the king of chainsaws as far as I'm concerned. I have worked on Stihl and Echo, and even the old McCollugh, and my favorite is still Husqvarna.
As far as echo chainsaws, when I worked on them they were very good. We sold both Huskys and Echos. Of course, that also included Jansered and Poulan, the lower quality saws made by Husqvarna. Of course, this was about 18 years ago when I worked on them, so I'm not sure where they've gone since then, but I would suspect that your saw is older, and there may be environmental restrictions on it, therefore, it's not economical to produce parts.
