I'm changing my handle here to separate my previous work from what I'm going to be doing with a new name. I'll be experimenting with AI assisted fiction writing. I'm going to have a program help me with outlining and the inventory of characters and places. AI will keep an eye on continuity for me and help with spelling and grammar.
This is not going to be stories written by AI. I will be writing detailed chapter summaries, the AI will produce prose, then I will do an intense job of editing and rewriting so the end result will be mostly me.
Please, give me honest assessments of the stories I will produce. I don't need to see simple attacks on AI and will not read them. This is a serious effort to explore the use of a new tool.
I'm a longtime member of the site and have written for BigCloset under various names and my fiction has been well-received. Please, in the spirit of the three rules, be friendly and give me the benefit of the doubt.
I will leave this blog up for comment for a few days before I start posting stories.

AI is not a relevant writing aid, it plagiarises others work - if you can't come up with the plot/words yourself leave it.

No one has to read my experimental fiction if they do not want to. I'll be sure to include the AI Gen/Assist tag that Erin has provided so everyone knows. I'm not trying to convince anyone that this is a good thing to do. I'm trying to see if it is worth doing and if it can be done well.

First, I would like to advocate the descriptive term “artificial stupid” into the discussion.
Second, you tube has quite a lot of AI written (and narrated) short and short-short stories.
I haven’t seen any evidence of continuity skill, including name and sex of characters in this body of work.
If AI can truly help with this (future?) it could become a very valuable writers tool. Medical professionals have a scribe AI tool that learns the user better over time so…maybe? Please blog updates on problems and results for us (and Madeline).

That can work. I personally have been using AI as a tool like that for several years. Use it to bounce ideas off of, help create the outline, use it to help edit, make sure your grammar is correct, your spelling is correct, etc. If used correctly, it can be a great tool. It has helped me become a better writer, even though I have not posted any of my own stuff yet. But if I look back at my early stuff, it is horrible; I really need to redraft it and rewrite it, but I got better thanks to AI pointing out how to be more creative and how to add that little extra flourish into my writing to make it more descriptive and better. One thing I will warn you about is that AI has its own style and voice. You can still use it and not lose your voice in the writing, but it takes some time and creative prompting. I agree with you that anything AI outputs should not be treated as a finished product; it is an early draft at best, and should be treated as such. Ensure the writing style is your own voice, not the AI's.
My suggestion, if you want to try this, and you have some funds you are willing to throw at AI for subscriptions, try poe.com. It allows you to access multiple AIs at the same time, so you can see what ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, and Llama react and say with the same prompt. It is amazing what happens when multiple AIs get the same prompt. One might add something, and you think Hey, now there is an idea and it makes you think Do I want the story to go that way or Hey, that might be a great side arc or Maybe I can add in a new character and use this. Or sometimes it does something, and you are like, okay, I see where this is going, I don't want that in this story, but maybe a different story.
So yeah, basically use it as a tool. It is a calculator and use it as such.
And now I have said my two cents about AI-assisted writing.
New Tools
Are worth exploring. You can always abandon it if you don't like the results or if your audience doesn't like the results. Personally, I get frustrated with 'help programmes' like Spellcheck, which you need to watch very closely.
I actually see advantages in AI if it gives you different insights into something you're writing. Just don't let it dominate your output.
