Sometimes, God can even use somebody like me.
See, I got a ticket for an event at the Royal Alberta Museum, and so I was about to walk over when a family came and asked for my help finding the train station. So I helped them, and went over to the museum, only to find out the event is tomorrow.
So that's what I mean that God used me - if I hadn't gotten the day wrong, I wouldn't have been able to help those people.
Life is kinda funny, huh?

Giving to strangers..
Somehow, helping a random family of strangers tells me that "the universe is unfolding as it should" as it says in Desiderata.
Good on you, Dotty. Not many people would have bothered to help strangers, but doing so shows what we here already know.
You are a good 'un.

"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."
I dunno ...
This notion of God using you ... That just kind of grates on me ...
Try it this way: God placed you in/arranged a situation where you could use your Free Will to do something good. Not even as a test. Just God saying (in my imagination) "Hey Dorothy! Here's a freebie! Go for it."

"[C]an even use somebody like me" - this also 'grates on me'. This is putting yourself down. Stop, We are =all= Somebody.
Our world has a horror-able lack of angels, a terror-able shortage of hero-ines. Just look at current events. Some say we have to become, to grow into being our own hero/ines. Good news is, this is so very easy, We don't have to go around jumping on live hand grenades, or saving people, kittens and puppies from burning buildings, or doing Noble Peace Prize-worthy stuff.
We can 'start small' and go as far as we like:
= Give directions. One time my directions had to be: "Walk one block that way, and ask again". (It was the limit of what I was sure of.)
= 'Jump start' a stranger's car that has a dead battery (I've been on both sides of this one.)
= Comment on blogs, stories, facebook Posts ...
= Microcredit lending.
= Join advocacy/protest marches,
= Help write "get out the vote" postcards.
= "Letters to the Editor", and/or to public officials.
= https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaving_the_world_a_better_place. My tiny version of this is, in my favorite local store, removing any empty boxes from shelves as I pass, getting the boxes out of the way of other shoppers, putting the boxes where the store people can deal with them.
= (Re-)Align one's Life with one's Values.
= Refrain from killing.
= Find and join, one of these many millions-plus and counting groups https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blessed_Unrest. You'll know the right one. And if you're wrong, politely leave and help an even righter-for-you cause.
