I noticed/discovered or was recommended a book on Amazon called "An Exchange of Souls" by Barry Pain. There is only one review that was German I think and the translation didn't tell me anything really.
It was apparently written in 1911, so the idea of a body swap story from 100+ years ago sounds interesting. Different societal norms, pre WW1 & WW2...also would be open to other suggestions of OLD stories like that, body or soul swap types.

Well, if someone finds it in a store, in the original publication, it's well outside of copyright and can be uploaded to Project Gutenberg. There are 9 works from that author there, just not this one.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Is 1931 old enough?

In a nutshell, and to the best of my recollection, a very normal couple has for some reason an Egyptian idol in their bedroom, and the thing gets tired of the two squabbling about whose life is easier or better. So he swaps them. There are some pretty unexpected twists, which I won't give away.

There was a movie in the 60s starring Debbie Reynolds called Goodbye Charlie. It was about a womanizer who was pretty much punished by being reincarnated into a woman (Debbie Reynolds character) and had to put up with being treated pretty much the same way he had treated women.
It also stars Tony Curtis and Pat Boone.
I was thinking I wouldn't recommend it, but then I realized there are many stories on BigCloset that follow the same premise.
I don't THINK it was ever a book, but don't quote me on that.
Okay. I just looked it up, and it was originally a play. It also served as the basis for a 1991 film, "Switch". "Goodby Charlie" came out in 1964.

Failed TV Series
There was also a 1979 TV Show entitled Turnabout. Starring John Schuck and Sharon Gless (for those who liked Holmes and Yoyo, and a Klingon Attorney, as well as Cagney and Lacey).
It was based on the 1931 book, which was what the 1940 movie was based on as well.
Interestingly, another Star Trek almumnus was in it, James B. Sikking, who played Captain Styles ("You do this Kirk, and you'll never sit in a captain's chair again" -- Star Trek III: the Search for Spock (1984)).
